I have eliminated StL and am down to Colorado and Dallas. Will probably think on it this weekend. I know you've been pushing hard for the panthers

On this board, sidewalk fan usually means someone who is a fan of a school they did not attend.

i think the longtime die hard fans who think they are better than everybody else are worse than each of those.

Which would make up a large majority of the fan base, so I doubt that's what they mean here.

I interpret sidewalk fan as someone who didn't go to the school, in which case I am one. Both of my parents went to the school, and I've been a loyal fan since I was in diapers. I just chose to go another direction for college. Am I less of a fan because of that? I'd say no, but some may disagree. I do know that I follow UGA more closely than probably 90% of graduates.

Bandwagon fans, on the other hand, are the scum of the sports world. I'd say bandwagon.

I have no problem with sidewalk fans as long as they are not bandwagon fans, also. As long as they are faithful supporters we are good to go

People really have a problem with sidewalk fans, if that's the definition we're going with? I can't cheer for LSU because I never went?

Bandwagons are worse. At least sidewalkers tend to stick with the team.

Bandwagon fans are the worst. There are plenty of sidewalk fans that attend games and donate the University.

This. Sidewalkers might not be as attached to the school as an alum, but at least they're actual fans. Bandwagoners are just awful trash.

Clearly people don't understand the differences between the two.

Sidewalk- are typically fans of a school that is local but have never actually attended the school. For instance, I grew up in Georgia but I got my BA from another school not from Georgia however I have been a Georgia fan basically for as long as I can remember as all of my family was also Georgia fans. I am a classic sidewalk fan. It doesn't have to necessarily be a local team but in most cases that's where you end up with sidewalk fans.

Bandwagon- This is your fan that roots for perennial winners. Your guys that are fans of Kentucky basketball, Alabama Football, The Yankees and the Lakers. We all have a friend that does this. They simply root for teams that it's easy to root for because they consistently hang banners. Jumping on the bandwagon. See people on this board with Kentucky bball and Bama Football sigs and you will see what I mean.

The worst of them all are "true fans". The one who will say you're not a real fan if you critique the team/coach/administration whatsoever. They can do no wrong, and if you question them you should just go ahead and root for another team.

The "Bandwagon True Fan" is the archetype of annoying fandom.

Bandwagon fans. Sidewalk fans are usually diehard for their school and I can appreciate that, even supporting the school when it is not winning. But people that jump on a winning team only to find someone else to cheer for when the team is no longer winning are worse. They really aren't fans in the first place anyway.

I was born in Louisiana, but have spent most of my life in Florida. I guess I'm sidewalk, but don't consider myself less of a fan.

My wife graduated from FSU and we have a running "argument" about which team our 3 month old will cheer for. She pointed out that I'm just from Louisiana, but she actually graduated from FSU. I then point out that I'm the one he'll probably watch most, if not all, of his football with.

I know plenty of sidewalk fans that are season ticket holders and make 6 figures. There are plenty of people from our parents generation that didnt go to college but are very successful.

Sidewalk is a broad term but I dont look down on someone who went to a different university than the team they grew up pulling for. I do look down on people who did not attend college and talk shite about a degree from the team they pull for being worth than one from another school. If you do not have a college degree you dont have any room to talk shite about academics.
