Alabama's first and second round draft picks since 2009:

Andre Smith - Non-bust. Starting tackle, signed a new contract worth $6 million per year.
Rolando McClain - Bust. Became a mess after a solid first year.
Kareem Jackson - ? - Solid years, presently a starter for the Texans. Texans are kinda abysmal.
Javier Arenas - ? - Solid, if not great, returner. Had a solid season at corner first year, but now appears to be a return specialist only.
Terrence Cody - Non-Bust - Became starter in 2011, has helped lead one of the better rush defenses in the NFL (giving up 3.8 yards per rush last year, 4th in the NFL)
Marcell Dareus - Non-bust - Pro Bowler. Duh.
Julio Jones - Non-bust - Pro Bowler. Duh.
James Carpenter - ? - Regular starter, Super Bowl champ.
Mark Ingram - Ask the Saints fans. That gets debated enough already.
Trent Richardson - Bust. Started off looking well (just shy of a thousand yards his rookie season, over 50 receptions as well). Probably due to knee surgery.
Mark Barron - Non-bust. Made All-Rookie team in 2012, duplicated numbers in 2013 despite playing for one of the worst defenses of all time.
Dre Kirkpatrick - Bust? - Injuries caused a slow down. Last regular season game was spectacular. Time will tell.
Dont'a Hightower - Non-Bust - led team in tackles last year.
Courtney Upshaw - Bust, though played a critical role in the Seahawks Super Bowl victory.
Dee Milliner - ? - Little early to tell, finished as Defensive Rookie of the Month to end 2013.
Chance Warmack - Non-bust - 16 game starter as a rookie at Guard.
D.J. Fluker - Non-bust - Started all but 1 game as a rookie, including 2 post seasons games.
Eddie Lacy - Non-bust - Pro Bowler. Duh.

3 Pro Bowlers, 3 Super Bowl rings.

How many of these players would be drafted as high or higher if they all were to re-enter the draft this year? How much lower would R. McClain, T. Cody, M. Ingram, T. Richardson and C. Upshaw be drafted? When you answer that question you will understand why Bama's draft picks are drawing so much scrutiny.

He's a bust.

Ravens: Why the Team Should Move on from Terrence Cody
quote:

One of the most disappointing draft picks by the Baltimore Ravens in recent memory came in 2010, when they used a second-round pick on former Alabama defensive tackle Terrence Cody.

When Cody was selected, expectations were for him to become the team's starting nose tackle while having the success that he had in college.

Through three NFL seasons, the exact opposite has been the case for Cody. While he may not be at the point where he can be labeled a bust, he is surely close to reaching that point.
BR re-sign Cody
quote:

The 6-4, 370-pound Cody has never lived up to the billing since the Ravens spent a second round pick on him in 2010 after being a dominant nose tackle with the Alabama Crimson Tide. His best season came in 2011 when he started all 16 games and recorded a career-high 39 combined tackles.

He is strictly a two-down player who brings little to nothing the table as a pass rusher, but if he ever got his weight in check, below the 350-pound range, he would have a much larger impact and prolong his NFL career as this appears to be his last chance to stick with the former Super Bowl champions.

While he did re-sign a one year contract with the Ravens about three weeks ago, he's currently 2nd string sitting behind Brandon Williams, a 3rd round pick in 2012 (picked because of TC's disappointing performance).

I feel like these types of threads are pointless. It seems that way down the true motive is to discredit a selling point that a rival school uses in recruiting, "you may get to the NFL at Bama, but more and more teams are skeptical of Bama players being unprepared for the NFL..it could hurt you in 3 years".

Truth is, when the #1 pick comes from Central Michigan, it isn't about the school any more. If you are good, you'll get to the NFL and what you do when you get there is on you - not your college team.

Also, we all have our share of busts (I'm not afraid to call Jamarcus for what he is), but Bama has had more 1st & 2nd rounders lately, so they have more opportunity for busts. I'm not sure if they have a higher percentage of busts, or just more total busts b/c they have more total draft picks.

All threads on any of these boards are pointless if you think about it. Do you think any congressman visits the poli board to make decisions about the way he will vote in congress?
Will the the head of the Federal Reserve base monetary policy on the opinions of those on the money board?
Will Frank Wilson run to Les Miles and tell him about a player he read about on the recruiting board?

Bama fans and coaches will be the first to point out how many 1st Rd. draft picks they have developed (rightfully so).
Fans and coaches of other SEC teams will be the first to point out when these same players turn out to be busts (rightfully so).

The NFL will take note because they don't like drafting "system players" and paying them millions of dollars to be unproductive when they join the team.

It's really not that hard to understand Sir.

Brown, Williams greatest ever at the barn, sucked in the NFL.

That's fricking ridiculous. Brown and Williams both came into the league and put up Pro bowl numbers as featured backs behind shitty O-lines. Let's talk about Mark Ingram who has a hard time cracking the starting lineup in New Orleans and Trent Richardson who lost his starting job his 2nd year in the league.

I think the point he's making is that simply making an NFL roster puts you ahead of 99.9% of every single football player who's ever taken the field.

No. The thread is about college players from Bama that get drafted being busts or huge disappointments. So if you want to throw a stat of those drafted in the first 2 rounds who never have or no longer start, then we can debate.
Being drafted in the first or second, and not being a starter, is NOT what the drafting team expected. Being a bust is NOT eliminated by starting a few games. That's my point
