You're trying too hard.

Steve Spurrier never could beat Lane Kiffin.
These are facts.

"Chickenshit football"
I'm hoping the OBC throws this one out this season in a presser.

112 victories via shutout. Simply mind blowing

But he beat everyone else. Neyland was a great coach no doubt about it. But the one platoon rule was a great equalizer. Could you imagine if the game were played like that today? It would be a lot like college basketball where the elites would still get the best players. And they would leave early to go pro.
The smaller schools would keep teams together longer, just like in basketball, and would beat the so called elites on a far more regular basis. There really WOULD be parity. And it would suck.
Not to mention squads would be smaller and fewer players would get a chance to go to school. There would not be the interest there is now IMO.

Neyland was also in his prime while Bryant's career was in its infancy. Bryant's prime was far more impressive than Neyland's. Bryant won 6 major poll national championships while Neyland only ever got the one in 1951.
Frank Thomas, the head coach of Alabama when Bryant played there, beat Neyland multiple times. For those Tennessee fans who say Neyland was the better coach, I guess that means Bryant wasn't as good of a coach as Thomas was.

I haven't seen one UT fan say that ITT. Neyland also did two tours of duty for a total of 6 years during his prime. I would put Bear and Neyland as equals. Both great in their own right

It would be nuts to only be able to substitute 1 player between plays.
So, if you had a change of possession, I suppose you would sub-in your QB. What about the other players?
Your DBs become your WRs?
Your D-linemen become your O-linemen?
Your LBs become your RBs?

He's pretty standard for a Texan.

You mean what would be called North Mexico if it weren't for Tennesseans?

Who's second best?
I personally would put Spurrier as the 2nd best. He wins a national title at USC, he is #1.
I would put Saban has #3, but I know very little about Neyland.
Didn't he have an undefeated, untied, unscored upon season?

I'm not denying that Tennessee's greatest gift to the world was helping Texas be born.

I would not simply because Bryant was able to maintain success and adjust his game at a time when football was evolving at its quickest ever pace. Neyland retired from coaching college ball when the vast majority of starters on a football team were playing both ways.
Let's not forget that Bryant had his coaching career cut short a few years by World War II as well. He was about to accept his first head coaching gig when war broke out.

Which ultimately means that Texas was founded and saved by the archaetypal inbred.

I little OT, but kinda related:
I once saw a Mal Moore interview where he said Bama didn't have a playbook throughout the 70s.
I was wondering if any Bama fans could corroborate this claim?

If so, then that's very impressive.
