But Alabama had 10-win seasons sprinkled in throughout that same time period (1996, 1999, 2002 and 2005). They were even in the national championship picture for a time in 2005 with MIKE SHULA as the head coach. It's been almost 7 years since Tennessee won 10 or more games. Alabama hasn't gone more than 3 or 4 years without a 10-win season in a very long time - even when they sucked.
But also bamas lows were lower. 3 wins in 2000 and 4 wins in 97 and 03.
Anyway, it's weird, these threads make me feel some sort of kinship with bammers. It's like waking up with an ugly chick the morning after a night on Broadway. The next day I'm like, what the hell was I thinking.

Then why did you say "current" interest? Alabama has absolutely zero interest in Florida as a rival, especially compared to Auburn, Tennessee, and even LSU.
I used the word current instead of modern because I did not anticipate it would rustle any jimmies and I thought we were having a decent discussion instead of litigating word choice.

Exactly

No alter, you guys are so thirsty for a rival it's ridiculous. I know many LSU fans, and all of which try to create rivalries with a carousel of teams ( Tulane, Ole Miss, Arky, Auburn, Florida) it's pathetic at best.

No LSU fans I know think Ole Miss, Arkansas, or Tulane would be worthwhile rivals, those are lesser programs.
Auburn and Florida make sense but aren't primary rivals and no one is confused on that point. FWIW, try to keep your story straight with respect to flaming. If you want to claim LSU fans desperately want Florida as a rival then you can't also claim LSU fans don't want to play them anymore.

arkansas and A&M have some history tho
A&M and LSU have a little history and enough common potential that they would make sense
Vanderbilt sort of has a rivalry with Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Obviously Tenn would never deign to consider that of primary importance since Vandy hasn't been the better program since early in teh 20th century

To be honest I don't think most lsu fans care about not having a traditional rival. We go through periods of hating certain teams, but that's it. I grew up hating auburn, but I don't mind them since tubby left. I guess a&m and ole miss would be our "rivals" due to history. a&m looks like it may shape up to be a big legit rival for the future.

pretty much
it just falls into one of the large number of stupid trophies in college football. pretty near every game in the Big 10 has some sort of trophy

I'm not sure. I guess somehow the two teams which lead the conference in wins, winning percentage, conference titles, and bowl wins randomly grew to dislike each other.

Ole Miss and Vanderbilt do if you talk to their more passionate fans. Granted we're talking about two fan bases of very limited size and generally afflicted by apathy... but if you can find those people they do consider it a rivalry game

Well I was hoping to get to 100 posts on this baited thread sooner, but I guess I'm just gonna have to call it a night.

True. But we never had 5 losing seasons in 6 years.
