but Bama is a shell of their former selves and probably will not be back to the pinnacle for sometime. Bama currently being a dumpster fire has turned the game into a rent a win for VOLS but there is still a very strong hatred between the programs.

FIFY if the Rant existed from 1995 to 2006.

It's all cyclical. VOLS will be back to kicking arse one day soon.

But Alabama had 10-win seasons sprinkled in throughout that same time period (1996, 1999, 2002 and 2005). They were even in the national championship picture for a time in 2005 with MIKE SHULA as the head coach. It's been almost 7 years since Tennessee won 10 or more games. Alabama hasn't gone more than 3 or 4 years without a 10-win season in a very long time - even when they sucked.

someone needs to compile a list of all rivalries involving SEC teams for the posters on this site

Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee. more current interest in Florida and LSU
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia. more recently LSU, before they lost the annual game Florida as well
Tennessee: Alabama, Vanderbilt sort of, Georgia to some extent. Florida is a more modern thing
Georgia: Florida, Auburn. Tennessee to a lesser extent. USC thinks of UGA as their most important opponent but UGA refuses to return the respect of calling them a rival
Florida: Georgia, FSU. To a lesser extent Miami and LSU (whom they've played every year for over 40 years). Auburn and Florida used to have some very spirited games but it wasn't quite a rivalry.
LSU: formerly Ole Miss and Tulane but both programs have faded. more recently their most hated rivals were Auburn (90s and 00s), Florida was hated under Spurrier because he owned LSU - since he left the series has been very competitive. Alabama is hated because they used to own LSU in Tiger Stadium especially and the Bear made Cholly Mac his bitch, more recently the Saban ties have infuriated the LSU faithful and 2011 was a real finger in the eye. LSU used to play some very interesting games against Kentucky but those disappeared with the 92 expansion. A&M is a natural fit for a rivalry but that's yet to fully blossom. Arkansas/LSU was a forced rivalry that never fully emerged.

it was more of an issue for Alabama back when Spurrier ruled the SEC from Florida

I only bothered with teh big six teams. There is obviously a lot more history than a brief blurb would be able to detail. LSU and Mississippi State have played 104 times (one of the longest series in the SEC) but it isn't really considered a rivalry as much as a traditional game

Bama had a thing going with Florida in the SECCGs of the 90s.

It's interesting to note that games between Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida decided basically every conference title of the 90s.

Why does LSU not have a rival? Most national powerhouses do. Damn, answered my own question. Flame on

Then why did you say "current" interest? Alabama has absolutely zero interest in Florida as a rival, especially compared to Auburn, Tennessee, and even LSU.

You just made so many LSU posters happy by including them in your rivalry list. That is all they really want.

I love the history behind it. If given the option I would rather stop playing AU than stop playing UT. I still hate UT, and this seven year winning streak we've had has done little to mellow out the hatred for me. Of course i lived in Tennessee for years, so the emphasis behind the rivalry was much stronger there.
