I was originally under the impression that we could stop him from going to Auburn by not releasing him. Well I'm an idiot. The only thing we can do is prevent him from receiving a scholarship for his redshirt year. He's free to walk on anywhere he pleases without our permission.

Freeze's whole recruiting schtick is that he's a faith based man that does, above all else, what is best for the kid. It would be pretty hypocritical of him to deny the kid a release to be/play where he wants to nearer his family. And that could come back to hurt is in recruiting more than Austin's absence this season.

High risk, no reward.

But I think that Golson and more importantly, future recruits, would understand WHY Freeze and the staff are hesitant to let him go directly to Auburn.

It's not like not releasing a kid is a non used practice.

Almost anytime a higher profile kid wants to transfer they get blocked from going to a Divisional or hell even a Conference school. That's very common and not on Hugh at all imo.

And I don't think recruits will hold that against him.

Like someone said we need to block him from any West team and any team on our schedule the next 2 years.

You can't. He can walk on anywhere he likes.

Kid can't afford to walk-on from what I understand. He'll just transfer and sit out a year.

Idk, I'm torn on it.

On the one hand I think not releasing him hurts Freeze's persona and our team more than a RT ever will at Auburn. On the other hand I worry it sets a precedent for kids to use this all the time.

frick it all.

At least from my perspective, the only excuse Freeze needs to block him is that the transfer to Auburn would provide an annual opponent with an advantage in future games. Seems reasonable enough to me.

I think he actually comes from decent money. I remember Freeze talking about his sweet truck. Like a brand new King Ranch.

They're called student loans... He can take some out or he can go play a year of JUCO for free... That's his problem... He's the one who chose to walk away from a free ride.
