You're posting questions in an attempt to get a rise out of me whilst avoiding any of the substance of my previous posts. I'm simply responding in kind.

Whilst?
While would suffice.

This argument is even more boring than the one going on between the Chowder Cops and adawgj in the Murray thread.......
Somebody throw a fricking punch already.

That's almost as bad as "alas"......which pops up around here from time to time.
Don't think i've ever heard either word used in real life. Ever.

This is just another reason they should get paid something for the hard work. Or hold money in escrow until they graduate. The SEC and NCAA are making to much money not to share a little.

Georgia will adjust to new rule allowing required summer training, film study You know, you're right. I'm in favor of paying all D1 athletes the minimum wage and pulling all scholarship support. Would that satisfy the people who insist on destroying amatuer athletics?
They are the entertainment in a billion$ industry. Why only minimum wage?
Destroying amateur athletics is far above my ability. ESPN and the NCAA are much better at it...

Yes ESPN has destroyed amateur athletics years ago. Its just a matter of time before the players catch up.

the top coaches in the 1980s made $250k and assistants made $40 to $60k with $100k being significant. Now, top coaches make over $4M and assistants make over $1m.
...but paying players will be what destroys amateur athletics.

Seriously Peter, why such a grandiose stance?

In the 1980's.......
You could go see a movie for $2 dollars..... and buy a Coke out of a vending machine for .35 cents....... Gasoline? What...$1.50 a gallon maybe?
Coaching salaries really haven't changed that much, honestly. (In terms of what dollars can buy)
Which is why espn and the ncaa are the least of college football's worries, imo.

1.50 for gas was considered outrageous in the early 2000's, pre katrina.
Jeff, i didnt realize how young you are.

The National Average for a gallon of gasoline ranged from about a $1.03 in 1980 to about a $1.10 in 1989 ... in Georgia gas was under a $1 on average in 1980 and about a buck and a few pennies in 1989. I can remember filling up my Pickup for about $15 on average. Hell, in the 90s it was about a buck .20 on average.

I'm talking to someone with a freaking "smart person list" in his sig. You people don't have much experience with irony, do you?
Bottom line: student athletes are not employees, even with mandatory activities in the summer.
Any questions relevant to that point?

I remember filling up in the late 90s under $1 per gallon.
And you people do realize that the actual employees of the university haven't gotten a COLA in years, right? Hell, there's a chance of staff and faulty getting a small raise this year, which would be the first for anyone in 5 years, longer for some people.

Top Head Coaches salaries have gone up from $250k/yr to $4m/yr.
If we want to use gas as a baseline, it has increase 4x within the same time period that HC football salaries have increased 16x.
Overall football expenses/spending are even greater than that increase at the top tier D1 Football schools.
Why is that?

So, Mondo, why would Richt and his overall staff expenditures see such significant increases over the same period that other UGA employees did not see any increase?

That's crazy. Man, I wonder how much a gallon will cost in a few years when I'm old enough to get my learner's permit...
Anyway. What about tuition? How much did tuition at UGA in 1980 cost a student compared to today? And what was his debt upon graduation compared to today? Also, was a graduate more likely to get a job using his UGA degree in 1980 than he is today? And how do the salaries of those jobs compare?
I was only a few months old back in 2007 when everyone was flipping houses and doubling-down on their mortgages and saying that real estate prices would never stop climbing. That your house would always increase in value every year...........and banks would give workers earning $25K/year a loan to buy a McMansion beyond their means right up until the days before the financial Collapse........
I'm sure though that nothing like that could ever happen in higher education though right?
It's not like the national debt has gone from an obscene 200 billion in 1980 to a deadly unpayable 17 TRILLION dollars today. Everything is fine. What could ever possibly go wrong? Surely, our best days are ahead of us at this rate? Right. NOthing to worry about here, that's for sure. Go Dawgs!
