I read you as a troll at first. That's a reasonable critique.

The advantage of energy isn't just getting it out of the ground, it's how cheap we can now get it. Makes it more economically viable to manufacture in the States. Asia may have cheap labor, but we can make better products more efficiently here. If the energy isn't expensive it helps to offset the wage disparity. With our access to ports, we're in one of the best positions to take advantage of this new trend that is very slowly beginning to ramp up. With global demand sure to increase for better goods as more and more enter the ranks of the middle class, there should be more than enough to go around for Texas and Louisiana and really the entire southeast.

The film industry is a long term investment and as much useful for PR as it will be for jobs. You and arr do have a point though, it's currently not sustainable and won't be for quite a few years. Maybe not ever.

Political corruption is everywhere, we just do it with style.

You have fair points man. It is in fact part of the reality. I just have some disagreements on how things will shake out. Reasonable people will at times.

I believe if you must elect a thief, elect the most entertaining one. If I were to put that on a poster EWE would be featured prominently in the background.

Louisiana built the railroads? How generous.

And one of the big 4 CSXT almost didn't come back after Katrina because so much track and its major yard in Louisiana was wiped out, and the state had nothing to do with building it back. And the company that insured it, will not because it is so probable to happen again. I wouldnt beat my chest about the railroads in Louisiana, because they will frick you over faster than anyone.

The railroads lost a huge amount of business along the Gulf after Katrina that will never come back because the businesses moved inland. And New Orleans public belt city wide railroad with all 25 long miles of track is truly at the mercy of the big boys.

Serious question....will he win the Congressional seat? I watched his announcement press conference and while he's not as sharp as he was when he was younger, he still has the charisma I remember back in the '70's.

Keep the butthurt flowing. I'm sure it's doing you a world of good. At least, it's doing me a world of good.

Bottom line is, Louisiana is doing great. And all the smoke and mirrors and cherry picked counters can't hide that.

The fact is, the economy is just now hitting it's stride. And it hasn't hit second gear yet. That's still 5-10 years away.

Planning urged to prepare for La.’s chemical boom
TIMOTHY BOONE
tboone@theadvocate.com

With nearly $84 billion in petrochemical plant construction projects and thousands of workers in the pipeline for Louisiana over the next few years, officials say it is time to start planning how to handle the impending boom.

“We better get ready,” said Boo Thomas, president and CEO of the Center for Planning Excellence . “We have thousands of new workers coming. Where are they going to live? Where are they going to get their McDonald’s? Where are they going to get their healthy food?” she said during a panel discussion Wednesday at the 2013 Louisiana Smart Growth Summit in the Shaw Center for the Arts.

Dan Borné, president of the Louisiana Chemical Association, described it as one of the “great tsunamis of investment” to happen in U.S. history.

An ample supply of cheap natural gas has triggered the boom, with most of the activity centered between Baton Rouge and New Orleans and around Lake Charles.

Susana Schowen, a workforce initiatives manager for the Louisiana economic development department, said the state will need an estimated 130,000 workers by 2020 to build all of the new industrial projects on the horizon. It won’t be just craft workers such as welders and carpenters. Engineers, managers, accountants and support staff will also be needed, she said.

Oh he's a shadow of his former self, but I live in the district and don't know who else is even running against him. If it wasn't for the D by his name, name recognition alone would probably get it done.

That shadow still has tons of charisma though. He and Bill Clinton just ooze it. Can't teach that.

New Orleans isn't even one of the busiest ports in the country anymore. Savannah is though.

just spewing stuff? NO has more than double the volume of Savannah. According to American Association of Port authorities, there are 5 Louisiana ports with more tons than #20 Savannah:

1 Port of South Louisiana, LA, 252,069,033
4 New Orleans, LA 79,342,141
10 Baton Rouge, LA 59,992,818
11 Plaquemines, LA, 58,280,348
14 Lake Charles, LA 54,382,331

20 Savannah, GA 34,132,066

At McDonald's.

I had no idea Louisiana was getting ready for a lot of growth. That's cool.

While we're on the subject of transportation (ports), does anyone want to debate airports?

Atlanta wins airports.

Though Memphis does quite a bit of shipping thanks to FedEx.

Atlanta has a great airport.

Let's talk about Saints-Falcons. Sean Payton's team is 13-3 against Atlanta. Discuss.

It's not even a discussion. The Saints are so superior in every way it is an act of charity to mention the Falcons I the same sentence.

Okay, let's talk music then. New Orleans has Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Harry Connick Jr, Fats Domino, Better than Ezra, Trent Reznor, Lil Wayne, and Goatwhore.

Atlanta has Ryan Seacrest.

Discuss.

A charity dedicated to placing ice cubes in hot frying pans to see what happens. No one is helped by this charity.
