We have one. Brodus is his name. And when he kicked in a game it made national news.

Cool.

There hasn't been many over the years, none I can recall off the top of my head, but you never hear about this being an issue, lack of black QBs? OMG something is wrong and has to be changed.

Depends on if his buddy Ricky is ok with Petrino stealing his spotlight.

LSU has one coming in this incoming class.

Damn right, I'm raising the flag for racial harmony.

When Brodus kicked for us he was reported to be the first black kicker in the SEC - at least in modern history. I believe Vandy had a black kicker back in the late 60s/70s because after Brodus there was an article mentioning the Vandy guy and how it was when he was playing.

No one other than Tennessee and Vandy (back then) has started a black kicker but kicker is such a specialist position that a lot of high schools don't even have one.

That could be it, I guess, thing is you never hear about it being such a travesty for a lack of black players at the position compared to others.

Just like you don't hear of it being a travesty for lack of white players at certain positions.

Or the lack of Asian and Native American players in general.

I really don't get how the PC thing works with all the double standards, I also don't get how the people concerned with this stuff do not get that in big money business (which is what NCAA sports has become) the job goes to the best man for the job, either on the field, or coaching those on the field, race plays very little in this equation. Both non-deserving, under-qualified white and black coaches find themselves in these jobs from time to time.

The only correct way to refer that piece of journalism is with the word "sharticle"

"Or the lack of Asian or Native American players in general"

Peter Kim, a Korean American from Hawaii, was Alabama's place kicker from 1980-1982 so we've broken the Asian barrier.

I meant to also add hispanics.

That will be the next wave of "racism" once the Hispanics over take blacks in the population %.

How many Hispanic players and HCs can you think of in the big two?

It will probably be alright since they have taken over baseball.

I just don't care anymore. I have grown so tired of race-baiting, ignorant comments directed back towards the race-baiters, the constant whining about white privilege, etc.

It all just gives me tired head at this point.

Are you serious Clark? This shite happened 10 years ago.

They just don't care because most of them are hardworking people that love being in America.

The blacks think they are entitled to everything...thats why the NAACP is still around. Its the same things as unions. There was a time and place. Now the NAACP feeds the weak to think they are entitled to more, just so THEY (the NAACP) can make more money.

ETA: you realize the first people that point out the color of anyones skin, its the people saying that their people should have more....If they would shut up about skin color, racism would all but vanish...There would still be some, just like sexists, people who hate dogs, gangbangers, people who dont like redheaded women, etc....the point being you can never rid hatred from all people of any specific group, but move the frick on NAACP.

Just another in a long line of national media ignorance regarding the SEC in general and Tennessee in particular. Anybody who knows UT basketball knows UT fans demand a lot of their coach. Compare the way Coach Martin was treated to the way Coach Jerry Green was treated and Martin came out easy. And Green was a white southerner whose teams were more successful than Martin's.

leave it to this jackass for me to defend UK basketball. If anything it was because Tubby IS black that he was in Lexington as LONG as he was. My gracious, all things considered Kentucky basketball was running in place after they lost to UAB in 2004. They could have easily pushed him along a year or so earlier.

And for Pete's sakes, Pitino had a BLACK WOMAN assistant in '93 or so at UK.

The man in his last four seasons at UK had 3 2nd round NCAA losses. He benched Rajon Rondo for Brandon Stockton. He didn't even bother recruiting a kid named Corey Brewer who openly admitted he would've liked to have come to UK.

And then to suggest Trent Johnson got ran off for race instead of his whopping 5 conference wins in a two season span, that Tony Barbee shouldn't have been let go for his putrid record at Auburn, or that Haith should have shouldn't have been thanking his lucky stars that Mizzou didn't can his arse when all the Miami stuff came out.

I mean I could go all day picking apart his web of bullshite.

I'll nutshell this article. The college sports league found in the south (SEC) hates, and suppresses black coaches. Oh, I will take one sentence and say they have more black coaches than the ACC and BIG, but those stats don't matter.

You're right, I recall most of the UK fans calling him a hack job no matter what he writes(there were others too). But most, many of whom bashed the article in the op, lapped it up as truth even with the slant and manipulated stats he used. There was a little bit of truth wrapped up in bullshite.

The richest part of this is the SEC gets shite on for the quality of ball being played the past few years outside of Florida and Kentucky. What is usually the biggest factor in that suckage? Coaching (sideline and recruiting).

Good thing he didn't talk about football. He would have buried Vandy for how we railroaded James Franklin to a team performing worse than us in a worse conference.
Am I in the dark about something? What are you talking about?
