frick Kim English. I'll never forgive him for being a no show against Norfolk state. No wonder he laid down he expects the fans to lay down to. This is why even though I'm a fan I always dog this university. They deserve it, they piss on their fans.

The University pisses on the fans. The fans piss on the University. It's just one big pissing match.

Very true. That's why now that I'm in my 30's and getting older I'm not feeling the same about sports. Nobody strives for greatness anymore, everyone just settles these days. Its sad.

I agree with Kim. Some Mizzou fans think Mizzou basketball has this amazingly storied history. In actuality, our best coach had very little sustained success and didn't make the sweet 16 but a few times.

Most of us understand that but is too much to ask to have a team that plays hard?

Apparently Kim and some fans here don't really remember/know much about the Norm years, too bad, they should learn more about history instead of just matter of factly dissing it for not winning it all.

I'd say the exact same thing about the Haith years with 1 slight edit:

They should learn more about the situation Haith inherited and his impressive record under that situation compared to other coaches who inherited similar situations instead of just matter of factly dissing it for not winning it all.

Turns out people don't like excuses. For some reason inexplicable to me, they'll accept them when it pertains to Norm, but not for Haith.

not even worth the mention of comparison, Norms teams battled w/ the best teams in conference and out, year in and year out, no not winning them all but they competed and very seldom got ran off the court.

Oh, sounds like they deserve a great participation trophy.

That's how you end up with the most NCAA tourney appearances without a Final Four appearance of all college teams, settling for competitive rather than the best.

If I remember correctly, Kim played through an injury or illness that should have kept him sidelined. If I'm right with my memory, he actually gets some credit for gutting it out and trying.

English was a hell of a player. He's earned the right to his opinion.

He was injured in the conference tournament against Texas. I think he got knee'd in the thigh, but I could be wrong. I just remember him taking a few minutes to walk it off.

Did he say the words 'historically mediocre program'?

That was just a Mizzou excuse, I don't believe that for a second.

I'm sadly embarrassed for the Norm haters here, the idea Haith should be mentioned in the same sentence as him is laughable.

I'm not a Norm hater, but to say he did amazing stuff while competing against the best teams in a basketball conference is not remembering history very accurately. The Big 8 was not very good at basketball during Norm's years, but he did at least win some conf championships. In all of Norm's years, the Big 8 had something like 7 teams make a final four and 1 team win it all in 1988. Compare that to conference teams Haith coached against in the ACC and the SEC. The amount of talented teams Haith went against is a lot more. I know we like to think the SEC is down in BB, but we have been in worse times. The only conference the Big 8 was better at in basketball was probably the SWC.

4/5/4/6/6/3/4/4/5/4/5/3------Number of Big 8 teams to make the tourney for however many years that is. Quit after that because saying the Big 8 wasn't strong is stupid. That's like half the conference or more making the tourney. The numbers are similar, maybe just slightly lower, for finishing the rank. I was working from the last year of the Big 8 backwards before I realized I was wasting my time. In reality, it is shocking how stacked the Big 8 was back in Norm's days.

I'm guessing you quit because the time period you mentioned is when the tourney expanded to 64 teams so most major conferences got multiple teams in. Getting half was nothing special. Then the ones that did get in didn't advance very far. The Big 8 just was not a very good basketball conference. It was similar to the Big 10 BB right now. I love Norm, but am old enough to remember a lot of those years.

I'm not sure what this means. If you want to explain it to me more, I will listen.
