I don't know how accurate all these are, but I'd imagine they're fairly close. Some probably include all incentives, some might include none. From different sources. With fair warning, here's their current salaries:

Shaka Smart - $2,229,250
Gregg Marshall - $2,632,500
Michael White - $600,000
Larry Eustachy - $1,800,000
Kim Anderson -
Ben Howland - About $2,000,000 I think
Jamie Dixon - $2,445,682
Mick Cronin - $2,222,205
Chris Mack - $860,807
Tommy Amaker -
Tim Fuller -
Archie Miller - $335,152
Tim Miles - $2,400,000
Craig Neal - $935,000
Quin Snyder -
Matt Painter - Over $2,900,000
Rick Pitino Jr. - $1,200,000
Brad Underwood - $270,750

What about Larry Brown at SMU?

I know he's old and moves a lot, but is a proven winner.

Why would Marshall ever go anywhere? Serious question. He can bulldoze his conference. Compete on the national stage because ESPN is disparate for mid majors to succeed. And make piles of cash while running the city of Wichita.

Eta: Tim Miles is out, based on economics. He is kinda proven but not $2.8M proven. I'd want more than a 10% increase to leave the B1G to come to the SEC. And Nubbers just got a beautiful basketball arena. We won't match his comp if that's accurate for his level of success.

Tells me it will take a butt load of money to get either Smart or Marshall and I don't think I'd blame Alden for not wanting to offer that kind of money.

I think for Dixon to be a legitimate option, he'd have to really want to get out at Pitt. Read: lateral salary. Granted, the buying power of his dollar would be far higher in CoMo. Still.

I'm not sure why someone would leave the B1G in basketball for the SEC other than cash (and weather). And you'd think the B1G would be competitive in cash. So I narrowed the list a little further based largely upon conjecture.

And most likely, it's none of those either.

Alden is staking his legacy as Mizzou's AD on this hire. It will be a home run. Back up the Brinks.

Yeah. Kinda. I'm guessing it's more about CYA. If you hire someone everyone says you should, they can't get mad when/if he fails. See: Quin Snyder. Alden had a lot of leeway with that hire. And even though it turned out horribly, everyone knew we thought it was a great hire when he made it. I think you'll see a hire like that.

I'm 100 percent on the Kim Anderson train. He's a winner, mature, native son, if hired he would retire a Mizzou Tiger, and I guarantee that he would win at least the first round game in the NCAA tournament.

He'd be the second coming of Norm Stewart. Plus, he probably has at least 10 years of coaching left in him.

Why not give that guy a chance?

I think we could do better. His Pitt teams seem to be paper tigers when it comes tourney time. They are kinda the anti-Michigan St.

The upside with Jamie is three-fold: 1) His teams perform well during conference, 2) He's a good PR guy- charming and all that, and 3) He can recruit top 20 classes with the right resources.

Call me crazy and he shouldn't have to do it, but I'd feel better if Loftin were involved in this decision in more than a keeping him informed sort of way.

So we have

White 600k
Miller 335k
Anderson, lunch money
Howland, handouts

I'd be happy with any of these really. I"m a fan of Anderson, but has anyone seen his teams play? I haven't and would like to know what they look like.
Why isn't Greg McDermott in the discussion?

Worse thing Alden can do is pull someone out of his arse like last time. We should lynch if that happens.
Second worse thing would be to drop big bucks on a bust.

Sure, we could do better. But will we? Alden has been just awful at picking coaches for basketball. One good coach and two utter train wrecks.

Not sounding good on the recruiting front.

quote:

Gant’s coach hinted that he will probably request a release, but couldn’t say for sure.

quote:

“’Wow’ is all I can say,” Gant’s coach at Effingham County, Donnie Arrington, told the AJC on Thursday. “I would think that this would really upset the apple cart a little bit.

“This whole recruiting thing has been crazy, and (Haith leaving) makes it even crazier. I will talk to JaKeenan and his mother, and I’m sure we’ll be reviewing his situation to make the best decision for him.”

They have got to be pissed as hell at this point and some of that fall out is bound to rub off on Mizzou.

Yeah. I wouldn't be too hopeful of keeping either Wright or Gant. Not impossible, but...

Just thought I'd let everyone know, the coaching decision has been made...by an 8th grader. He says I'm stupid for putting Marshall on the list. No way he's coming. Same with Smart. Says Dixon won't leave Pitt. So on and so on. Says the next head coach at the University of Missouri is Archie Miller. You're welcome Alden.

We could do a lot worse.

I do think you could pry Dixon loose. But I'm not sure he's a top 10 coach. And you'd probably have to pay him a top 10 salary.

Yea Larry wasn't considered a bad coach by the Hawks fanbase, I'm not sure what management thought about him, obviously when Ferry took over that was it.

Main issue is since all his coaching experience is in the NBA, how will he do picking up the NCAA regulations for recruiting etc.
