Good lord man.

He is piggy backing off of what Cal did.

Cal ended the Arkansas series in 2003 because he did not want Arkansas visible in Memphis.

We beat their arse on the regular and Cal wanted no part of that.

See this matters because Pastner actually recruits Memphis. Cal didn't.

Cal started the policy in part for the same reason.

Why did Bear sign every player possible even if he knew they wouldn't see the field for him?

So the competition didn't have them.

Sure, if you say so

Roy Williams got to the Final Four at Kansas yet he is now at North Carolina making about 40 cents on the dollar what Self is now making at Kansas.

Pitino got to Final Fours and even took Kentucky to a National Championship. Anybody could have hired him but only Jurich at Louisville had the stones to open the checkbook to buy a winner. Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee did not step up with the checkbook and they have 0 National Championships sine. Louisville now has one, but more importantly they now have a state of the art 22,000 seat arena and a new home in the ACC.

Cal got 400K base and 3.3 M endorsements (3.7 million before bonuses) his first year at UK. Before he won his first game at UK he was making almost 4 million (before he won any Final Fours or the NC at UK). If Arkansas, Missouri, or Tennessee plunked down 4 million a year in 2009 they would have a trophy right now.

Yes he only happened to go to a bunch of elite eights and a final four because he finally got Arkansas off the schedule.

I think its a toss up.

Either school could become a great basketball program with the right coach in place. Tennessee being worse in football than they traditionally have been could be viewed as opening something of a window of opportunity for their basketball program to be more appreciated.

This would = Cal actually having a bunch of kids from Memphis on his roster.

FIFY.

I think that's now UCONN

Tennessee is obviously one of the best programs in the country though. UCONN just has the right coach.

Holy frick dude, to go back that far to reach an OSU title and mentioning Iba

I was pointing out that Oklahoma State was there at the beginning and is still around today. Sure the Dons of San Francisco went back to back, but they never got back to a Final Four.

Oklahoma State = 6 Final Fours from 1945 - 2004, 2 National Championships
Utah = 4 Final Fours from 1944 = 1998, 1 National Championships

Oklahoma State > Utah

The last trip Arkansas made to Memphis, Arkansas won 90-73

The series was done the next year because Cal would not renew.

Cal sucks dick when he plays Arkansas, whether it was at UMass, Memphis, or Kentucky. There is a long, heated history involving Cal and Arkansas....one which a semi UK fan, like yourself has no clue about.

Cal has always had a hard on for Arkansas.

Without ESPN, Uconn would not be the basketball power they are now

Right now but overall not a chance. Even on the stats where they're even and the few where UCONN surpasses TENN, Tennessee is on a whole 'nother level.

UCONN DOES have the best coach right now but that's result of illness and fantastic recruiting by Geno Prickaemma.

No. Memphis was an NCAA tourney team our last year series.

So, how many people need to tell you Cal dodged Arkansas before you take off your Cal blinders?

You sound just as ridiculous as Indiana fans claiming the same thing.

They just added UCLA to the schedule next season along with Kansas, Louisville, and North Carolina, but I am sure Calipari was frightened of a program that hasn't been relevant in more than a decade.

Interesting that a thread about Mizzou and Tennessee basketball turns into a thread about Arky's long forgotten glory days.

championships since 1995:

UCONN: 1995, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014

TENN: 1996, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2008

That's not close. That's almost double the number of championships. FWIW neither TENN nor UCONN won a women's basketball championship without Geno or Pat - its just that Geno won more championships overall and in a shorter period of time.

Geno has been an absolutely transformative coach for more than 20 years. He is one of the great testaments to the value of having the best coach in the sport for a prolonged period of time.

Not forgotten to me.

I've seen my basketball program in 3 final fours, 2 title games....

Only a women's basketball fan at Tennessee can say the same thing regarding basketball.....

Sad part is wasting time on that instead of discussing how to fix the 3 programs in question (Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee)

Viewed another way, only 3 NBA coaches make more that Cal / Pitino. Most are in the 2 million range and NBA job security is pretty slim. Smart move would be for Slive to prompt these three schools to budget 3 million - 4 million a year if they are serious about basketball and just poach the best from the NCAA and NBA so you change the dynamics of the SEC as a whole when they view M basketball. At least SEC women dominate salaries across the country and look how competitive the SEC women are.
