And I think our fanbase is so petulant, impatient and entitled that they will not care about what the roster was, and will immediately decide the new coach sucks b/c he didn't win his first year. The attendance will be even worse, the fans will already be calling for his head entering Year Two. When in fact we'll still know literally nothing about his ability to craft a winner here.

We are turning Mizzou basketball into a toxic coaching position that a great coach would be wise to avoid. That's my concern.

Frank Haith did that. The fans didn't.

I get that but I would go back to your football in the 80's analogy. Until we got the right guy (Pinkle) it wasn't happening no matter how long we stuck it out with the other guys. and in some cases we stuck it out way to long.

The rank and file fan didn't have shite to do with this.

Sure they did. They stopped coming to games. And I mean they stopped before we even nosedived into the NIT, they had already stopped when we were 12-1 and in the Top 25, the support was still dwindling. Our fanbase is subpar right now for hoops. Part of it is the SEC move and resulting lack of passion because nobody in their right mind, not even a hoops head like me, can get fired up for fricking Auburn or Georgia or Mississippi State coming into Mizzou Arena on a Tuesday night. That's part of the problem but its a reality of our program now that every head coach has to face. Unless you do something super spectacular like win 30 games, our fanbase has decided they don't give much of a shite anymore. And even if you win 30 they'll still bitch if you don't follow up with an NCAA tournament run. I'm not sure what major, accomplished head coach out there would be wise to walk into that sort of scenario.

Time to start checking Flightaware for flights to or from Wichita.

Done deal. Frank Haith, as expected, will be the next coach at Tulsa, a source told @CBSSports. Updated story coming.

I guess my point in the 80s analogy and counter argument to that would be that if Warren Powers had stuck around another 5 or 7 years or so, and the administration had supported and invested fully in the sport, Mizzou football would probably have been just fine in the 1980s and the revolving door would not have started in the first place. Was Powers ever going to be an elite coach leading us to become an elite program? Probably not, and nor was Haith. But both had the ability to be steady, postseason appearance kinda guys. And although you can accuse me of having low expecations when I say I'm OK with that, I point to 1980s/1990s Mizzou football as to the danger in trying too much to reach past that.

Nah. It is true we only show up when we are winning but nobody will call for the guys head for two years minimum.

There is plenty of blame to go around. Fans. Coaches. Alden. Boosters. You name it. Bottom line...I was not going to devote an entire day, who knows how much money and 4 hours on the road to watch the product on the court last year. There have been teams that went to the NIT or not even that that put a more enjoyable product to watch on the court. I don't blame fans for not wanting to go to games that were painful to watch. I did go to the Mizzou/Illini game and will tell you, it was so hard to watch, I really just couldn't wait for it to be over.

Yeah, we only call for a coach's head after 3 years and 70+ wins.

Who is a realistic long list of candidates? I know we have that assistant on staff who is highly thought of by current and former players, coached in the NBA, and is well respected. Can't think of his name though. But he is someone who seems like may be too early for head coach. No chance in hell we can land Shaka. So who seems reasonable?

There are a lot on interesting possiblities being thrown around. I wonder who Alden is reaching out to. I hope this time he gets some help from some of the bball boosters like Sundvold because he seems to suck at hiring coaches by himself
