it would have been good to give him some more time as a fan base to right the ship.
To be fair, he would be leaving of his own free will. Nobody is forcing him (that I know of anyways).

I do, however, feel like he felt he was in over his head at Missouri to be honest.
Same here. Promoted to his level of incompetence perhaps?

He ran away. Which was smart the pitchforks and torches were catching up.
His track record is suck. I would rather get this out of the way now and hope and pray Alden can do this right this time.

He was at Miami for 8 years, 1 NCAA appearance, enough said. When he lost to Norfolk State I knew he was a fraud for sure.

Y'all think Mike Alden has Kim Anderson lined up and pushed Haith out?
Posted on 4/17/14 at 3:34 pm to MIZ_STL
Possibly, Alden was feeling the heat quick because he knows the fans hated this hire from the beginning.

I would agree that with most coaches need time to build a program to their specs, but he was such a questionable hire in the first place that a lot of people just don't have a ton of patience.

Definately good hires out there.
Howland, Anderson,
possible Eustachy or Cronin
We good at this. Remember when we picked Quinn over Self?

This. It would be different if it was a hire that everyone was excited for but just didn't pan out but he was a shitty coach with a shitty resume plus baggage, that is what was not good.

This is actually one of the smartest things I've seen Haith do (not that I know the man). He was in over his head, saw the writing on the wall, and bailed out gracefully.

I do not think Haith was over his head at Mizzou. I think we will be worse off in 2 years for losing Haith. I understand no one shares my opinion.
I share your opinion. This is not good. And mind you I don't think Haith is the greatest coach in the world. But in terms of what's best for the program, Haith had a good chance of rebuilding it back into an NCAA tournament program 2 years from now. New Coach is going to be handed a decimated roster from which JW3 and probably Wes Clark if enough people want him will transfer, and from which Gant and Namon Wright will ask out of their LOI's. Next year will be brutal no matter who the coach is. That makes his Year 2 essentially a Year 1, and all bets are off as far as the NCAA tourney in that scenario.
If Alden wasn't willing to give him an extension because Bill Laurie or some other big boosters didn't like Haith anymore, fine. But my guess is this move will be a complete shock to Alden and said boosters and we don't have a plan in place and will be sitting there with our dong out hanging in the wind yet again just like the CMA thing blindsided Alden back in 2011. This is not a good way for any of this to go.
If Haith was to be fired/replaced/move on, the optimal time would have been 2 years from now. Then guys like JW3 and Clark are upperclassmen who are less motivated to transfer for one year, and you'd have a group of guys with them and Gant, Wright etc who might enjoy playing together and want to stay no matter who the coach is, like our 2012 senior class of Kimmie/Denmon/Cardo etc did.
Right now, the core group of guys are either sophomores or entering freshmen - none have enough loyalty to each other or the program built up to have any reason at all to stay here. So you have a gutted roster. Just like we had back in 2012 when Haith was first hired. Ironic.

Once JW3, Clark, Gant, and Wright bail, I can't wait to watch the Ryan Rosburg show! Hey, at least Torren Jones will get that playing time everyone felt he so deserved. And, another positive, I don't have to follow the Hill re-recruitment either anymore. I can focus 100% on football. We SEC, right?

There are a lot of good possibilities out there. The ship was sinking, every year worse than the last. Yes it will hurt short term, changes coaches usually does. Better now than later.

ATX, I am completely on board with all of this. I have not been a fan of Haith and definitely not sold on him being a solid coach. I do think he's good at getting guys to come in. The timing of this right now couldn't be worse. If we could have just gotten more of a foundation of players in first, then I would have felt better about it. As it stands, who knows who we will be putting on the court next year. Bello and Post and I guess Beidschied I guess are stuck. Rosburg will stay. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess. Would not be shocked to see JW3 leave and will not be shocked at all to see Gant and Wright ask for releases from their LOI.
Bottom line...basketball at Mizzou is going to be ugly for a minimum of 4 years. Had things stayed their course, even if you don't like Haith, I think the talent alone would have made Mizzou a tournament team in 2 years and if you had a couple/few players leave the program, you could absorb it better. As it is, losing a couple/few at this point will make Mizzou the 3rd best team in the state for years to come, at best.
Of course, that could all change with a huge hire, but my guess is Alden doesn't go that route.

Haith left. We didn't run him off. Alden didn't fire him. He left. Fire your bitter gun in a different direction.

Cam Biedschid really got screwed on this one. Wonder what in the world he does now.

Alden will be under pressure for this hire. And there's plenty of good names available. I nominate Jamie Dixon.
