Better safe than sorry I guess

Auburn let the threat win. I love having class canceled but I am disappointed in the way in which both Auburn and the APD handled this situation.

APD should've taken it seriously 3 weeks ago and not let it build up to what it became. Then the two separate suspicious person reports on campus last night just put it over the top.

Auburn University took the side of we don't want blood on our hands if something were to happen.. but they've also set a precedent that may encourage others to do the same to try and get out of class.

Prolly a slim chance but I wonder if any professors or instructors could recognize that handwriting. I know when I was a GA I could recognize certain folks work by just looking at the handwriting.

Terrorist wins, the person who made the threat wins. Auburn loses.

Stupid to say the terrorist won. But I do agree it was a dumb decision to cancel classes.

the email I got from AUHOSP:

Classes are cancelled as well as all operations today due to the threat found in Haley Center last night. The building will be locked.

AU ALERT: Due to continued student and parent anxiety over the reported threa to campus, Auburn University will cancel classes and suspend normal university operations for the day on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Authorities do not have any additional information and do not believe the threat is credible at this time. Classes and normal operations will resume at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 17.

bold added for emphasis

Wow this is some weak shite. Anyone can write something on a wall and get away with it. It took no risk or anything to get the university to cancel class. A precedent has been set, look for things like this to continue now. Can't believe they canceled class over writing on a wall.

What stops him from doing it the next day or the day after that? Or how about Saturday when a shite load of people are here? Canceling class does no good.

It allows the police to do thier work and show some accountability and give the parents of the student body some peace of mind.

Some serious short sighted ppl here today.

What harm has occured from cancelling class?

The fact that the precedent has now been set that anyone can go take a shite and write some stupid message they have no plan to follow through with, walk out and class will be canceled and they will never be caught.

How is that any different from last week? Could someone not have done the same thing last week and have classes cancelled?

The precedent that set this type of reaction was set in 2007 in Blacksburg, VA.

Police have known about this for a month. An extra day isn't going to do much. If this is a credible threat, all it does is make the guy postpone whatever he was going to do.

Canceling classes gives the threat credibility and instills more fear in people.

Is that why you were considering not going to class last night?

I had nothing important going on that I needed to be on campus for tomorrow. So it wouldn't take much to have me skip.

If I had a test or any reason besides getting credit for going, I would've gone today.

I am just saying that 1) it appears cowardly and 2) someone writing some dumb threat on a wall is just not a credible enough excuse for people to change their daily routine over, much less an entire university.
