That UT players seem to be publicly siding with Cuonzo Martin should tell you they didn’t like the way their coach was treated.

Per those last two tweets, Cuonzo Martin is taking his 7-1 center Kingsley Okoroh to Cal. He committed to UT yesterday.

Players are usually pissed when their coach bolts. But not the Tennessee players. They seem happy for Cuonzo Martin. That’s interesting.

I think Cuonzo was solid. Tennessee really blew it not showing enough respect to their coach.

GREAT move by Cuonzo. He could see the writing on the wall that he wasn't valued or secure at Tennessee despite his improvement each year capped off by a Sweet 16 run. Coaches who make Sweet 16's and recruit 5* players don't grow on trees, and Tennessee is about to learn that the hard way. at Tennessee. This is why SEC basketball can't have nice things.

I totally agree.

I watched him coach at Missouri State. It took him 3 years to win the Missouri Valley Conference, which everyone should know is no easy walk in the park. That's when Creighton was still a powerhouse in the conference.

It took him 3 years to reach the Sweet 16 at Tennessee, which any Mizzou fan would kill for!

I'm curious which coach Tennessee has their eyes on. They must be certain that this mysterious coach in waiting will immediately perform better than Martin, which rarely happens when you have to start over.

I don't get it.

It was a smart move by Cuonzo for sure. Better move for UT.

Lol. He is a borderline top 150-200 player. Nothing special in basketball. Borderline high major player. A decent complimentary piece, but definitely a project.

Who's wondering? It's clearly a combination of Fulmer's post 2001 laziness leading to decreasing talent and increasing thugishness in our recruiting classes. This, coupled with the UT fanbases high expectations led to the premature firing of one of our best coaches in history, only a year separated from winning the East. We hired Lane Kiffin, who pulled a total dick move, decimating our recruiting classes, increasing attrition, and putting us in a hole. This is where the disjunction of the AD, Chancellor, and boosters began to take its toll. The right hire would've helped, but Kiffin's treatment of UT made it seem like the UT job was far less desirable than it really was, leading us to settle for an AD from La Tech who hadn't had a winning record in the MAC. In his three years, he destroyed in-state recruiting ties, coached terribly, had what seemed like 20 different staff members take jobs at other schools, blamed the players for losses, and made Tenn a laughing stock of the SEC.

Instability, attrition, coaching changes, and no cooperation between the AD, UT Gov, and Boosters. That's why we've been mediocre in football.

You notice the three Vols that have chimed in on twitter are all gone for the NBA right?

Your football team sucked in 2007. You backed into the east tiebreaker. You lost at the swamp by 39 points.

And yes, I have noticed they are leaving for the pros. Anyone who is on the team is stupid if they say something.

Cuonzo is a good coach and had Tennessee heading in the right direction. They were arguably on track to become the 3rd best program in the SEC for the next several years, and that apparently wasn't good enough.

I know it's easy to think the grass is always greener, but Tennessee fans should take it from me (a Mizzou fan), that it's not always the case. I was all smiles/jumping for joy when Mike Anderson left Mizzou, but then we hired Frank Haith and look how that's going.
