"The past three seasons here at the University of Tennessee have been extremely rewarding for me, my family and my staff. We accepted some unique challenges when we took over this program in 2011, but our recent run to the Sweet Sixteen proves that our blueprint for achieving excellence both on and off the court can generate tremendous results.

"Just as our players have 'bought in' and made a commitment to doing things the right way in all aspects of their lives, my staff and I feel a strong commitment to them and their continued growth as men.

"Tennessee is where I want to be. That has never changed. I have said many times over the past three years that I believe we have the resources and support to be the last team standing, and that belief has never been stronger. I appreciate the unrivaled passion of this fanbase and feel the responsibility to make those fans proud. I also appreciate the commitment that the university and athletic department leadership have shown to this staff. I am excited about the future and remain honored to be the head basketball coach at Tennessee. Go Vols!"

Coach Zo was more or less forced out by Hart from everything I have read. Wish him the best.

Now who will UT hire to replace Cuonzo?

This makes Kiffin's exit look expected.

On one end, I don't want Tennessee tossing out money because of one tourney run. Listening to the masses is what resulted in that stupid Fulmer extension.

On the other end, I have little faith in UT's ability to hire coaches. I don't really blame it on the AD. There's a huge dysfunction amongst university leadership, the UTAD, and really the major boosters. The boosters making Cuonzo's life difficult (rumors?) will be a huge hurdle in attracting a new coach. It shows when he leaves UT for Cal.

Oh, missed that, but was thinking there was no way in hell they would have fired him.

Good for him leaving shitty UT for a "real basketball school". They'll be cutting nets down in no time.

I think he is a decent coach but it seems like this is a good for all parties.

I was surprised he didn't leave UT for Marquette. Now we know why. He obviously didn't feel wanted at UT.

It is a real problem when coaches in the :big2: sports use your program as a stepping stone.

I suppose Tennessee can hope to one day be the Miami(OH) of football coaches or Tulsa of basketball coaches.
