I really don't get the following that Dr. Who has. Is it supposed to be a comedy? Is it supposed to be a serious show? Do people just like it because of how campy it is?

ETA: Most of the fans I have met have been female. Is it geared more towards women?

I have no idea. I tried watching a season and it's just terrible. Looks like a high school budget production.

Eta: idk, most of the ppl I know are male that watch it. I don't get it.

Not really.

Eta: why do grown men enjoy watching dungeons and dragons on HBO?

Well, at least you admit it.

Everyone I know tries to say its some brilliant political commentary.

Well it's a great story in a very engaging world with a ton of great characters. There's that too.

Yeah, that's another thing I find ludicrous about it. Good stories don't need 12 million characters.

They don't need them, but they can have them.

Doctor Who is awesome. If you had to put it into a genre it'd be action/adventure. It can be funny, but it's not a comedy. It's both silly and serious. I guess you could say it takes its silliness seriously.

If you're not up for suspending many levels of reality, then it's not the show for you. You have to be able to accept that this guy has a Police Box that's bigger on the inside and can travel through time. After that, just accept that anything is possible and be prepared to roll with it. It can be slow and a bit cheap at times, but the payoffs for sticking with it are so worth it.

I love the show, but know it's not for everyone. My wife just can't get past the silliness of some of it. It is what it is.

Game of Thrones is awesome, though. I don't know how you can not like it. Calling it "porn for nerds" is a bit much. The nudity isn't overwhelming, IMO, and the story and drama are 10x better than anything else currently running on American TV.

I do see how well GoT has done, along with other huge Sci-Fi and fantasy shows , and want to burn Fox to the ground for fricking up Firefly.

Meh... I don't care for it. Sat through the first few episodes.

I just hate the whole dragons, horses, and swords genre.

Yeah I found that as I got older I grew out of fantasy and into SF. You can have great SF stories that are grounded in real science, but fantasy is fantasy no matter how you slice it.

At least GoT stays away from elves and dwarves and other stupid shite.

Yeah if you're not into medieval style stuff it's probably not for you... But it has the deepest character profiles of any show I've ever seen and yes, haha they do need a lot of characters (Valar Morghulis)

Porn for nerds and dungeons and dragons is completely wrong though.

The iconic thing to this show is that it breaks the idea of the "Main Character Shield"... That's something that actually connects you to each character cause you realize that at any moment, they're fair game

I actually would like the show better without the dragons. Some of the fantasy elements are fine..but the dragons just distract from the more interesting storylines.
