Thought it was weird. BTW is this a tradition you guys do at weddings? No flame, just curious.

Speaking of crazy Aggie traditions, I was at a wedding for my buddy (LSU grad) and his fiance (Aggy Grad) and at the reception the Aggies all locked arms in a circle and did the Aggie War Hymn. All the LSU people were like WTF.

I'm glad I don't live close enough to associate with them.

Only when I'm addressing Aggies. West Pointers do that too, btw.

You'll never see it coming...

Back to the subject of Aggie Rings though, the ring design hasn't changed in 120 years. The only difference between my ring and finestfirst79's ring is that his has "79" below the crest and mine has "00"...and his is probably more beat up too.

These threads are so stupid. Academy and West Point guys wear theirs. A good portion of Ivy League grads wear theirs. Who gives a shite whether or not some assholes on this board think it's cool. I'd been wearing mine for five years before some douche had the temerity to ask why. I told him because I went to a school I'm proud of and by the time I realized someone might not consider it "cool" I'd already grown accustomed to having it on. I haven't taken it off since 2005.

It's the currently in-college (or recently graduated) crowd around here that tries so desperately to fit in .
They'll gain some years under their belts and learn what's important and what isn't.
But right now their worlds are about being seen with the coolest Yeti Cooler, insulting all other fan-bases, calling most "chicks" fat, and desperately trying to visibly project as southern a role as possible.
Real life eventually kicks in.

I guess there aren't a lot of military on here, especially officers. It's a big thing for military schools.

I'm not an academy or military institute grad. But every day I see people on duty wearing Academy, VMI, Citadel, A&M, Norwich, Virginia Tech, and Merchant Marine rings. It's respectable.

However,if I saw someone wearing a non-military school ring I'd make fun of them.

Unless you are some kid growing up in a ghetto or third world country, graduating high school or college is not that big of an accomplishment. Not ring worthy in my opinion.

The Aggie Ring isn't about graduating from college.

quote:

One side of the ring symbolizes the seal of the State of Texas authorized by the constitution of 1845. The five-pointed star is encircled with a wreath of olive or laurel leaves symbolizing achievement and a desire for peace and live-oak leaves symbolizing the strength to fight. They are joined at the bottom by a circled ribbon to show the necessity of joining these two traits to accomplish one’s ambition to serve.

The other side with its ancient cannon, saber, and rifle symbolizes that the men of Texas fought for their land and are determined to defend their homeland. The saber stands for valor and confidence. The rifle and cannon are symbols of preparedness and defense. The crossed flags of the United States and Texas recognize the dual allegiance to nation and state.

What the frick is ring-worthy? And as we noted, most of the guys who wear class rings went to schools that are one hell of lot more prestigious than those of the guys who bitch about class rings. Probably not ghetto/third-world types.

Well said, Navtiger74.
I don't understand why folks who make shitty comments like that think that anything they say holds even a scintilla of worth to the ring-wearer?

As I mentioned in my post above about the Academy, West Point, Annapolis, A&M, VMI, the Citadel, Norwich, the Merchant Marine Academy, the Coast Guard Academy, and a few others...

There are some schools who actually have a sense of class identity. You do a lot together, you identify yourself by your year group, and so on. I did not go to a school like that. I went to a normal school and grew up in Fayetteville. At the U of A and other schools like Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and so on people don't talk about being "Class of '18" as a freshman in 2014. You just graduate when you graduate with whomever else happens to be graduating that day.

We get it. You're not worth much to society. Don't denigrate those that actually went through something to get their diploma instead of just pay tuition and show up to class once in a while.
