Ranking the SEC states in terms of "Southernness"
what is "southerness"? I think you would have to say folk with scott irish heritage, protestant, make their own whiskey and eat everything fried then I would have to say south Louisiana is not southern.
+1
Not to mention that in the late 1890s/early 1900s, thousands of transplanted New Yorkers traveled to the Port of New Orleans for jobs, and many stayed there.
Over the years, the following generations have proliferated all over SE La.
This is the reason many New Orleanians talk with a 'Bronx/Brooklyn' accent.

1. First shots of the Civil War - Fort Sumter, SC
Well, we have Gone with the Wind which is arguably a bigger deal.

2. The Citadel
How does having a military school make a state more Southern?

3. Charleston > Savannah
Not according to this bracket

4. NCAA won't come to Columbia, will go to ATL

5. ...GA has ATL, which is South Harlem.
And Columbia is a damn gypsy nest. ATL also has the South's baseball team (Braves) and is home to insitutions such as The Varsity, Waffle House, and Chick-fil-a.

6. Bojangles > Chic Fil A
Good luck convincing people of that one.

7. SC's 2nd biggest school is an AG school, GA's is for nerds who build Iron Man suits.
Actually, GA's 2nd biggest is Georgia State and its third biggest is Kennesaw State. But please continue being wrong.

And yet you stopped at 7 arguable points...

Admittedly, Bojangles is good.
But, unlike CFA, it is very dependent on location and they have nothing close to the quality control of CFA. I have had Bojangles experiences I'd take over CFA most of the time, but I've also had some disgusting experiences.
It's CFA quality food run by McDonalds-quality employees.

Gainesville is hardly redneck. Now the areas directly to the West...yeah buddy. Levy County is all you need to know.
Let's do a hillbilly ranking next.
I'll start:
1. UT
2. UK

Try another school. The one you attend isn't working out for you.

Alabama and it's people are in no way shape, or form similar to California. MS and AL are pretty equally different from CA.

People voted for it. The people know what they want (as wrong as it can be sometimes).

Also, Savannah has Midnight int he Garden of Good and Evil which is Southern as fuuuuuuuuuuuck

Mississippi has the Neshoba Co. Fair, we win.
And there is no difference in East Mississippi and West Alabama. Must of my summers as a child were spent on the rivers of West Alabama and the culture is basically the same.

News to me. Isn't North Augusta known for the overwhelming gypsy population?
The Varsity sucks, btw. shite is way overrated and just a bunch of grease

Agree. I love the deep south, but my mind is a little bit western, too. I like that Arkansas has a little of both.

This is interesting. I always thought I detected a bit of "new yawk" accent down there, but I always just assumed it was organic, combo of French and southern.

I think so. Still in SC.
Which reminds me: we have Augusta fricking National on our side and there ain't shite in the world that can match that.

FWIW Bojangles in Starkville closed due to lack of business.
Chick-fil-A right across the highway essentially put it out of business

Historically, AL and MS aren't really any different from a cultural perspective. Even today, that holds true. Mississippi has sub- cultural distinctions within it's residents, like Coastal MS residents, and delta residents. I'm sure AL may have some of those as well. But if you put someone in a crowded room in either state, they wouldn't know one from the other.

Historically, Alabama is the Danny Devito to Georgia's Schwarzenegger.

Are we saying "Southerness" is a good thing or not? Basically what I'm reading is the only really "southern" states are the shitty ones where nobody wants to live.

Damn I didn't know Bojangles closed. It must have been recently. I read where Chick-fil-A sells more chicken than anyone, including KFC.
