So with all the down votes in this thread, which one of you cock suckers works for the DM?

It's none of us just a dedicated lurker.

I always thought that the Old South formal was dumb.
Other than the fact you can basically wait list dates because 95% of southern girls want to dress up like Scarlett O'Hara.

I always find great value in understanding the unknown. It is unknown to me why some of my classmates wish to travel to a plantation (where scenes from “12 Years a Slave” were filmed) and dress in formal antebellum attire.
Because it was fun Tim. I got drunk in an old school suit. That's the best kind of drunk.

Seriously, you're going to let this bother you that much?

I mean, Old South is pretty silly. I know that the KAs on this board don't give a shite, and I know that priority number one is to just party and get laid (which I support 100%), but the guy did raise some interesting points, namely that a) it most likely isn't a part of your "heritage" and b) it whitewashes history or makes it palatable to a particular group of people.
If you do something so publicly, then you should be able to respond to someone criticizing it without being a petulant child about it. But, then again, we're talking about 18-22 year olds here.

I remember when I was 10 or so looking at my brothers Old South photos and wondering how they were allowed to do that.

The IFC is, and always will be, the whipping post for the DM. There will always be something the editors find relevant enough to publish. Next year during fall rush, every chapter could take 5 minority students in their pledge classes, the DM would find something negative to publish about the IFC. They take pleasure in going after one of, if not, the largest student organizations on campus.

And yet the fraternities thrive.
Seriously, why are y'all so butthurt over otherwise innocuous criticism?
Posted on 4/4/14 at 11:40 am to DCRebel
It's not so much being butthurt. It's similar to being annoyed by misquitos in the Delta. Constantly around, can't ever get rid of them, and bring nothing to the table.
I could care less what the DM prints because frankly, I am proud of the things my chapter has done while I've been at Ole Miss. It's just sad that people buy into these overwhelming stereotypes of fraternities when stereotypes are the exact reasons all of this is relevant in the first place.

So are step shows outside the union in the middle of the day while people are trying to take tests in Bryant.... However, I didn't take to the dm to bitch about it.

I agree with the "while people are trying to take tests" part, but the rest of it is a really bad apples to oranges comparison.

:NicholasCageyadon'tsay:
I worked there for two years and while Jacob Batte was the editor it was pretty good. After he left it became a shite show. They had kids that were sophomores running the paper and they didn't know what the frick they were doing.
There was a story someone wrote about the Egyptian riots going on that was a good piece and they put that shite on the 2nd or 3rd page. Their front page story instead that day was about pollen on campus.
Basically every Sunday there was a staff meeting and after Jacob Batte stepped down as editor, the new editors would try and assign stories that shite on the Greek system, especially about ANY kind of racism on campus. They don't know what the frick they are doing and if the university wants them to be taken seriously and not hated, they need to step in and force some of the journalism administration to do something about it.
There are only one or two good writers that are on staff at any given time and 90% of the time they aren't journalism students. And the writers that write this bullshite are hipster anti-greek system douche bags wearing skinny jeans and a fedora.
