Guys I'm joking here. Go along with it. There is no need for punters when points are put up every series by the O.

And that was crucial in several games last year. Been watching them all again. Clark was money for us and Slammie is good at downing the ball.

He's always behind the defense too. If we can connect with him on those deep balls he could lead the nation in receiving yards.

I doubt he leads the nation. He will have to share the ball a little more this year. Thing that got me most excited from those notes is that the D "won the day."

I wish I could go to sleep and wake up on August 20th or so. I thirst for info this time of year. It's like my crack, I hit all the usual spots for info. If I can't find any... !! Next thing you know I'm combing the carpet (lurking at other teams boards). We need to start a Detox for fans after the season.

AUBURN, Alabama -- For the most part, all's still relatively quiet on the injury front for an Auburn team that has only two practices left before the spring.

Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall, after a light day on Saturday, was wearing full pads and looked good to go during the warmup period.

In addition, Ricardo Louis, who was sick last week, was back in full pads.

LaDarius Owens, who is sitting out the spring as he recovers from a broken foot, was headed into the weight room, and Keymiya Harrell, who was injured last week, could be seen out of full pads heading into the room.

Auburn continues to rotate on the offensive line. Chad Slade was back at right guard, and Patrick Miller was working with Avery Young at right tackle.

The normal group of punt returners had one fewer player among a group that included walk-on receiver Gray King, hybrid Robenson Therezie, inside receiver Marcus Davis, cornerback Jonathon Mincy and safety Jermaine Whitehead.

Auburn's defense looked like it was focusing on younger players. Whitehead was off to the side, with Derrick Moncrief at the boundary and Rudy Ford at the field safety.

Moncrief was up, playing on the line of scrimmage as they worked through formations and the checks the defense has to make.

Corey Grant and Rudy Ford took the first kickoff returns.

Josh Holsey was dressed in full pads again, but may not have been a full participant.

Johnson says the defense has been filled with positive things and they are so much more ahead of schedule.

Johnson says Kenny Flowers, Cameron Tony and Khari Harding are taking snaps at middle linebacker.

the Mike, Will exchange of Kris Frost and McKinzy has worked out well this spring.

Johnson said sophomore-to-be Carl Lawson has had a "great" spring, becoming an all-around defensive end.

Says that Montravius Adams has done a 'heck of a job' at DE. Believes his athleticism gives him the ability to play on the outside at a high level.

Johnson on 'Rhino' package with bigger DL: "I think that's something we will utilize against (power teams like Ala., LSU, UGA)."

Jonathan Jones has had a good spring. He leads the way at one of the cornerback spots.

Johnson said Reed "is at home" at cb position. Think he will contribute this year.

#Auburn DC Ellis Johnson estimates "a dozen" defensive players that missed all or part of spring, says nagging injuries have been negative.

@JHokanson 49m
Johnson said he's "happy" with the progress of Khari Harding, who moved from safety to linebacker.

@JHokanson 46m
Johnson said a bruised tailbone caused Cassanova McKinzy to miss significant time this spring, hampered his progress at MLB.

@JHokanson 39m
Johnson said Trovon Reed looks "at home" after moving from receiver to corner. "We feel like he'll be a huge contributor."

A couple things per JGT
-Ric Louis was moving oddly, like he had a back issue
-Owens practiced w/out a boot

More from Ellis
quote:

** Said practice this spring hasn't been as physical as he wanted because of injuries.

** More on that: "Several guys who really needed those opportunities weren't able to get out there."

** He said they haven't been able to hold a "real" scrimmage since the first weekend. Injuries.

** Says several players will be held out for A-Day -- either due to injury or as a preventative measure.

** Says Cass McKinzy didn't have a good spring in general due to a bruised tailbone. "He needed a good spring. I wish he'd have gotten more work."

** On Harding: "I'm very optimistic about what he'll be able to do" this fall.

** He said he figured Cass would be the MLB last year, "but he wouldn't talk."

** "I just wish he hadn't missed so much time. He's still a relatively inexperienced linebacker."

** Says Carl Lawson has put together a great spring. "Our objective with him was making him a better overall player. He's a much more complete player than he was -- and he still has the ability to make dynamic plays."

** On Mon Adams: "He had Gabe had to move outside to defensive end. We didn't have any bodies. He's done a heck of a job a end. Now we have a 'big' package we can use with four linemen. It's something we can utilize."

** "This spring, we're making a lot of plays we weren't making last spring." Says it's due to familiarity and knowing how to play at a higher level.

** Calls Holsey a "wild card" and says he's a starter. "The question is: Whose job is he going to take? Is he going to be a boundary safety? Is he going to be a boundary corner?"

** "Overall, it was sort of a herky-jerky spring in terms of improvement." Again discusses injuries.

** On who can play opposite Carl: "We felt like Elijah would be that guy. And L.O., but they've been hurt."

** On Trovon Reed: "He's been very aggressive as a tackler and his coverage technique.

** On Jay Jones: "He's penciled in, but he's got a battle." (Says Trovon is battling for that spot.)

** Ellis immediately says there are a lot of options in the secondary with Holsey still a TBA guy. (Clearly, Moncrief is doing well.)

** On A-Day: "We're trying to put on the same show and we hope we'll draw a big crowd. We're still hopeful."

Stuff from players

T-Reed
-Says he always wanted to be a CB
-So why was he a WR? "Can't turn down Gus Malzahn's system."

Reese on Barber
-On Peyton Barber: "He's strong, works really hard and runs behind his pads. He's a big back -- like CAP."
-"This is Running Back U. He's another one of those.

Damn, I definitely don't like hearing about the injuries. Honestly though, it sounds like we are finally emphasizing physicality at practice. Hopefully it will translate on the field.
