Carmelo Anthony is the most overrated player in the NBA. Don't get me started on that clown. And Kobe is just 80% of the talent on that team. Everyone else by just paid to fill roster spots.

D'antoni got close until David Stern screwed him royally by suspending key players in that infamous Robert Horry WWF suplex of Steve Nash in the western finals back in 2005 or whenever...

he is an elite scorer, no one can question this. Not the best player in the game, but a top 15 player. He can be the #1 offensive option on a championship team

this year? Yea that's the case. Last year? frick no. Last years team was supposed to win the west because of the insane amount of talent that was supposed to be on it. Dantoni mismanaged the frick out of it

2nd round in 07 is when that happened. He got the conference final in 05 and 06, lost both

Mavs got 'em in '06.

Spurs in '05. And I'm pretty sure PHX was the higher seed in that series.

Carmelo needs to shoot at least 20-25 times a game to get his and its not always pretty. The guy loves to just get the ball, clear everyone out, and play one-on-one, which to me is fine when you're hot but when he's not (which is a majority of the time) he's stubborn as a mule and doesn't adjust his game. The dude is a me first kind of guy and will never get a championship playing this way. Kobe is very simular in nature but he's learned to trust his teammates which has translated into all of the success that he's had. Anthony has been in the NBA 10+ years now, and still hasn't learned that lesson.

A lot of people don't like Mike D'antoni and I get that but imo after the Mike Brown experiment, it's almost as if the Lakers don't really know what direction they want to go in and just cater to what Kobe wants more than anything. Some teams just have to start over. D'antoni inherited a mess, and its not working--for him, for management, for Kobe, or for the fans who should demand a refund on their million dollar season tickets for fielding a team that would struggle playing the Austin Toros much less a caliber NBA franchise.

And melo can get hot and can hit a shot at any spot on the floor. He is an absolute elite scorer for that reason. High shot volume guy but that's who he is. You take him as your #1 scoring option and you are coming out ahead most of the time. Not the best player, but top 15

I agree with you that the Lakers, really jim buss who runs the shiw now, have catered to Kobe too much since 2011. But to say dantoni inherited a mess is very wrong when he inherited a team with a starting five of Nash, Kobe, artest, gasol, and Howard. He isn't a championship coach, everywhere he has gone, he has had a high level of talent and he can never use it correctly. fricks with his sets too much and doesn't know how to manage a game. Just isn't a championship level coach. He had his perfect team in 2006 and he couldn't break through. They should have beat the mavs that year in the conference final

On paper that starting 5 was pretty good but...

Nash: too old, injury prone... probably needs to retire

Kobe: still a top 5 player but again wants everything to be his way or the highway..

Artest: a complete defensive specialist, a bit of a headcase, and dwindling offensive output.

Gasol: still a force but he's past his prime too

Howard: great defensive center but overrated big time as an offensive guy. The ability to win dunk contests doesn't translate to the ability to put up 30 points a night against anyone he wanted. And he never really wanted to play with the Lakers. Complained like a baby (again I should add) about teammates, (Kobe more than anyone) complained about coaching, and signing with another team was inevitable.

So yeah, it was a good looking roster but fragile as shite. When Kobe went down, they imploded faster than you can say WTF, heh.

because dantoni doesn't know how to fricking use him

still was a 15/20 pt guy with that. there is no excuse for last year. Too much talent for him to fail like he did. I don't give a frick. PJ was able to win with Kobe and shaq bitching back and forth and Kobe going back and forth between the games and Colorado. A coach worth his salt would have won with the Lakers team last year. Dantoni didn't. He's not a championship caliber coach

Maybe wca should follow mikes advice and "pick another team if you don't like the product", paraphrased from sport center at 4:30 yesterday afternoon

Nah, he's a dyed in the wool laker fan, which I commend him for since most of the bandwagoners have bailed.

I hate Jerry Jones' product right now, but I'll always be a Cowboys fan.

Honestly I'm a huge bandwagon nfl fan; I follow the players/coaches I like. Last year it was Peyton, chip Kelly, and Christine Michael. Next year it will be those three plus Jff.

Nothing wrong with that, I suppose. Honestly I wish the Cowboys had fewer bandwagon fans.

I root for Dallas and Houston, but since I've graduated I also have started rooting for teams with Aggies on them.

Gasol didn't fit in D'antoni's system. He was trade bait a lot of the time.

Let's just agree to disagree Phil Jackson could have come back and who knows how they would've done although I wouldn't think they would be too much better...but it's probably best to just start over at this point if you're the Lakers. They're an iconic franchise, they won't be held down for too long....
