I posted it above. Digital Starter is about halfway down this page. I can't tell you what channels it has exactly because it rejects my zip code but if you can get Xfinity then you should be able to see

CGSC - this Chronicle article seems to contradict what SBD posted. Not sure who to believe as SBD may have jumped the gun or misunderstood or maybe the Chronicle did

quote:

Comcast said SEC Network will be available beginning with its digital starter package in SEC states, including Texas, and on digital preferred and higher in areas outside the 11 states with SEC schools. Since many out-of-market sprots networks are relegated to special sports packages, the wider distribution patterns for SEC Network will provide significantly higher revenue for the conference, its schools and ESPN.

I guess I'd ask before signing up

Chronicle article on TWC add
quote:

Time Warner is the largest cable carrier in Texas, with systems in Dallas, Waco, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Beaumont, Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley.

A spokeswoman said SEC Network will be available on Time Warner’s digital standard and digital preferred service tiers. Channel numbers will be 384 in Austin/Central Texas and San Antonio, 912/913 in Dallas, 334 and 1334 in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Vidor, El Paso, Winnie, Corpus Christi, Laredo, the Rio Grande Valley, Alice, Beeville and Harlingen.

And just for some random, the LA Times article
quote:

In Los Angeles, the SEC Network will be available on Channel 361 in high definition and 279 in standard definition. The channel is being offered on Time Warner's "Preferred TV" package, which means most homes will get it.

Doesn't sound like even outside of footprint it's on the sports package. Not familiar but it looks like in order to get ESPN2, FS1, NFLN and others in HD you need Digital Preferred.

the funny thing is reading the Shaggy thread where they are trying to act like ESPN is taking a huge discount to get this on because the BTN did.

While I don't doubt ATT and maybe Dish got a sweetheart deal, there is zero need to cut deals a month before launch. They have all the leverage at the moment. The BTN (and others) took discounts because they were already airing and the demand wasn't strong enough to force the carriers hands.

Anyway, it's all good news on this right now (except for me personally but I'm gonna give FIOS til Aug 14th)

The $1.40 was the quoted rate card. ie, list price. Without seeing the contract it's impossible to know if Comcast agreed to $1.40 or $1.00. I'm sure it will eventually leak but my guess given the timing of it and who has the leverage, is that it's closer to $1.40 than $1.00.

I also think that logically carriage would be a lot slower if they were discounting simply because even if you settled with someone else, you'd keep fighting to get close to the rate card price with others.

Good question. I suspect Suddenlink will be on board, and might even be on board by the end of the week. Otherwise they will see an exodus of customers.

The funny thing is reading Hurtlocker try to project how much games on the SECN are going to be worth based on how much CBS pays for their first pick. The situations are completely different. Those CBS games are at a huge discount relative to their worth if a new contract was being negotiated. And even when the contract was originally signed, you could argue that the SEC gave a significant discount to achieve greater exposure. Not to mention that the CBS deal is a flat rights fee, and not a split of profits (or revenue), as the SECN will reportedly be.

And man... they worship them some HL over there. He's a smart guy, but I remember debating w/ him on the WVU Scout board long ago, when he was claiming that Slive would be thrilled w/ schools getting $1-$2M a year from the SECN.

it is pretty amusing. I feel like I'm reading a real life wookie defense. Lots of words. Pointless comparisons. And concrete conclusions that cannot be questioned.

He shows an inconsistent grasp of the larger issues like what drives carriage rates, what ratings are used for, and how cable is different than broadcast, which is quite odd because he pretends to be in the business. Somehow though he displays a keen understanding when it suits his agenda.

Yep. He tells them exactly what they want to hear. I've thought about pointing out the flaws in his argument a couple of different times, but I'd be banned after the first post without doing anything but highlighting the logical fallacies.

I think the funniest thing is when he mocks Clay Travis (about whom he and I are in agreement) while doing the exact same thing from the other side (though without the douchiness). But I have to say I am quite impressed with his ability to constantly move the goalposts with zero shame.
