Looks like we're getting a PumbaaHog.

Y'all remember how about this time last year LSU got their logo updates and cartoon Mike for the kiddies.

When I first realized what we may be getting I was like

Then I realized how popular Lion King was and still is and how much money people spend on Disney crap and how it's crack for toddlers, and I understand that we're gonna need to pay for a stadium upgrade that we really don't need other than the fact it'll cover up the eyesore that Peepaw built and give us a top notch completed first class stadium.

My final piece of evidence is this PMS 206-C shaded Pumbaa.

and this one

and this one with Timone and his beard.

Haters start hating.

Georgia and Florida just went through this exact same process with Nike. A-State would never get this kind of attention from Nike.

I get that -- my gripe is more with the fact that Nike/Adidas/UA are able to position themselves as the branding agency for the athletic programs of universities like UGa, UF and UA. Yeah, I know, cash money real and all that, but it's surprising that they're overhauling brand standards.

There had to first been a standard of the brand to be overhauled, there wasn't.

Many schools were like Arkansas with each department doing their own thing in the athletic department. Arkansas is the easiest to point out because the football team, basketball teams, baseball team, etc all had their own unique logo they used. (Running Hog- Football, Block A with hog jumping through it or leaning on it - basketball, Hog with bat/script A - baseball)

They are establishing the brand and standards, as before there were little to none in the terms of consistency from department to department.

That's just it - I don't want brand standards dictated from an apparel company, as contracts and relationships shift over the years.

The athletic department is dictating the standardization.

Nike is creating the font and color standard that will be used with over-site from the AD

This standard would be the universities property that they would take with them to be used by say Adidas if the switch was made, meaning Adidas couldn't use the same red as Wisconsin (like they did) and slap on any font they chose (like they did).

If Nike creates a secondary logo, that might be the only property that is "theirs", similar to how they kept the interlocking MSU when Ms. State switched from Nike.

Long did the same thing while at Pitt, as far as establishing and solidifying the brand. In the future you will be able to identify how Arkansas, Razorbacks, and numbers on jerseys are used by the font, meaning you will be able to identify cheap knock off gear on store shelves, all the officially licensed gear will be in the same colors and have the same font used (replica jerseys for example).

I believe that Nike would win the secondary logo for x amount of years and then it would be released to Arkansas.

Except they weren't the same:

And at least the font and uniforms looked good back then.

Except all of future Hog gear is gonna look like cheap knock off crap. I hate schools that use their own funky font.

Example of gray and crap font:

Example of applying cool basketball KU font to football:

I just realized why I don't like any of those fonts on those jerseys. It looks feminine.

That we only use some of the time...

Hog uniforms & merchandise are going down the drain. I have very low expectations for this "rebranding". Programs with any amount of dignity don't get new football and basketball uni's every year (Chargers shoulders, ugly tusk on torso, belly sweat patch, anthracite crap).

I'd rather we not have fricked with it consistently in the first place.

I'd rather we go back to something traditional (i.e. something pre-2008) and then leave it the frick alone.

I'd rather the athletic department and/or Nike and/or [insert apparel company] stop treating our uniform designs like we're General Motors and they're cars and we have to tweak them and make improvements on a damn near yearly basis.

Petrino is the one that wanted them dicked around with so much. Bielema has said several times that he is traditional and wants them to look something like 2006. I don't know why yall don't think that's going to happen.

If we're gonna look like shite every year it might as well be a consistent look. They keep screwing around with every jersey each year (maybe they realize that the variations suck?).
