Sheriron Jones has already started recruiting for UF.

Reached out to Derrick Dillon, George Campbell, CeCe Jefferson, and Martez Ivey. He is going to recruit hard for UF.

Gators in great shape for Bello

by Zach Abolverdi

Montverde Academy offensive tackle Abdul Bello camped Saturday at Florida, marking his fourth visit to the school.

He is not your average in-state lineman. Bello, a former boxer, moved from Nigeria to the United States in 2013 to pursue a football career.

His recruitment took off in late January and hasn’t slowed since, with several elite programs making the 6-foot-6, 297-pounder a top priority.

The Gators were the first team to offer Bello as well as host him for a game and an unofficial visit, and this weekend they were the first to get him in a summer camp session.

Bello enjoyed working with UF offensive line coach Mike Summers.

“It’s so great,” he said. “He gives you exactly what you need for the competition. It’s really good to work with him. He liked my feet, my arm movement, the way I move and the way I punch.”

Up next for Bello are camps at Florida State, Georgia and South Carolina.

“It’s exciting,” he said. “I want to compete and learn. The more I play, the more I get better. So I just try to get as much reps as possible to correct my mistakes. I want to get ready for my season.”

Bello plans to take five official visits and make a decision after his senior season. The Florida coaches are doing everything they can to land his services.

“They just tell me they really need me,” Bello said. “They want me to be a Gator, and they’re pretty nice to me. The offensive line coach is really good. I think it’s a cool school for me to be in some day. I just want to be in a good place.”

Norton feels at home in Gainesville

by Zach Abolverdi

Kendrick Norton is back on the market following his decommitment from Florida State earlier this week, and Florida appears to be early front-runner for the versatile lineman.

Norton is an offensive guard and defensive tackle for Jacksonville Trinity Christian but prefers the latter position.

That played a part in his decision to back off his pledge to the ’Noles, who wanted him as a guard.

“(Defensive tackle) is where I’m going to play in college,” he said. “So I just want to take my time and get a feel for the recruiting process.”

Norton has wasted no time in looking elsewhere. He visited UF on Thursday and returned for Saturday’s camp session as a spectator.

“It feels like home,” Norton said afterward. “I just like the environment and the whole atmosphere at Florida. They have one of the best fan bases in college football. Everywhere you go, you see a Florida T-shirt.”

On Saturday, the 6-foot-2, 292-pounder spent most of his time watching Gators defensive line coach Brad Lawing put campers through drills.

“I learned a lot of stuff that I can incorporate into my game,” Norton said. “I like him a lot. Just the way he works with his players. He has a great history of putting top-caliber guys in the league.”

Norton said the UF coaches like him at defensive tackle and have a need at the position.

“They told me there’s a chance to play early,” he said. “They’re not guaranteeing me a starting job or a spot in the rotation. They just told me the opportunity is there and it’s what I make of it.”

Florida is currently the only school that Norton knows he will officially visit, and he plans to announce his commitment at the Under Armour All-America Game.

Anybody know what the UF board looks like at Safety and DT?

It seems really unclear to me.

Also how many WR and LB will UF take this year?

@ZachAbolverdi: #Gators offered Derrick Graham (@Mrperfection352) as an ATH after he camped at #UF yesterday. Rivals lists him as 6-4, 220 with a 4.55 40.

So... how does the Joker situation affect recruiting?

I don't think it has much of an impact, honestly. He was the recruiting coordinator, but that's nothing more than a title and pay bump at UF.

That's about the most positive spin ever.

Nah it's the truth. If the position meant anything, TRob would have been the RC, not Joker. UF will miss Joker on the field far more than in recruiting.

I hope that's true. And even so, it's still depressing as hell.
