Information : 247
Rankings : idk, none of them are very good imo. I guess the 247 composite.

The only group of fans that don't use the 247 composite are Bama fans that rely on Rivals. Scout and ESPN should just stop trying.

Thanks. Keep up the good work, guys. This thread is my "go to" for any info on UGA recruiting.

ESPN's are actually the most important imo. They impact perception the most, which is really the only thing that recruiting rankings matter for.

This!

I could buy that. In the grand scheme of things, I think 247 is more important/reliable for those of us that actually try to keep tabs on recruiting but I could see where the average joe might see ESPN and nothing else.

I think a lot look at them as the see all, end all of sports and no one else matters.

Which is so horribly out of touch with reality that it's sad

Not just the average joe but even the avid football fanatic. They have an entire channel devoted to signing day and that has a huge influence. None of the other services have that kind of medium to put their product out there like that.

Which reminds me: can someone explain how a multi-billion dollar corporation like Disney can finance multiple channels to cover college football but can't afford anyone better than Tom Luginbill to act as their recruiting "expert"? Or how the ESPN UGA recruiting site can get shutdown despite all that exposure?

It's not about whether they can afford it or not. People will listen to whoever they put up there, so there's no incentive for them to hire anybody better.
They did hire Gerry Hamilton, who was good on 247 (probably the best evaluator they had, imo)

I wonder if ESPN will try to buy 247 eventually to beef up their college recruiting presence?

They'll just run it into the ground.

247 already partnered with CBS Sports

Sounds like Ronnie Harrison is at least listening to UGA. Says he's coming back for the Auburn game

The chidi okeke-valentine recruitment might be the weirdest I've ever heard. There's some talk of him reclassifying to a 2015 recruit

Yep. Enrolling in a private school in Georgia
ETA: McGirt may want to hurry the hell up

Known Remaining Targets
OFFENSE:
4* WR/ATH Darius Slayton - big-time, Dawgs should get. USCe really only other challenger
4* OT Emanuel McGirt - good OT prospect, a little raw but high ceiling, UGA lean over NC St.
4* APB Nyheim Hines - UGA still in contact but will likely sign elsewhere
Wildcard 4* OT Chidi Okeke-Valentine - Huge 2016 recruiting that could be reclassing to 2015. Massive upside. Must take imo. Has taken two recent visits to UGA.
DEFENSE:
5* Jack/DE Josh Sweat - best player in the country, injured, dogfight with VT and FSU
5* CB Tarvarus McFadden - great, big corner prospect. 50/50 w/ FSU imo, but may be a slight UGA lean. Good friends with Sony and IMac
4* ILB Roquan Smith - must get, athletic ILB. Perfect scheme fit. Likely a pretty big UGA lean at the moment
4* CB/ATH Donte Jackson - elite speed, likely Pruitt's top DB target imo. In a battle with home-state LSU, I think we get him, others disagree
4* S Rashad Roundtree - big-time safety prospect. would play early. Need to hold off Duke, others.
4* CB Micah Abernathy - Great athlete, between us and UT, should know soon
4* OLB D'Andre Walker - Elite pass rusher, underrated imo, UGA trending but in a fight with AU and UT
4* CB Marcus Lewis - don't know too much about him, but apparently UGA is making a move
4* CB/S Rico McGraw - Committed to Alabama, UGA still very much in it, one-time commit, very versatile DB
4* S Ronnie Harrison - Committed to Alabama, just visited, will return for OV, big safety, bit of a longshot imo
4* S/Star/ILB Montavious Atkinson - Committed to Auburn, Walker's teammate, really good, versatile player, UGA making up ground fast
4* DT/DE Albert Huggins - UGA getting Barnett likely sealed Huggins to Clemson
4* Jack/OLB Arden Key - Committed to USCe, don't know how hard UGA will go after him but the door seems to be cracked
4* DB Tim Irvin - UF lean but likes UGA, athletic but small safety.
Probably another ILB will sign as well. I think one of the committed DBs will sign elsewhere. More guys will probably pop up like always. UGA is trying to sign around 30 and currently sit at 22 public commitments.
Let me know if I missed anyone.

That summary should show a clear change in recruiting strategy, especially defensively. Instead of recruiting the same amount of players as spots you have, you recruit a lot of great players for a few spots and see who you can get.
That way, you're less likely to have to move way down the board when you miss. The downside (if you want to call it that) is that you may have to tell some people no at the end.
