I'm not sure where this was, but a lot of that was wrong. Fixed it for you.
Actually. I was right. Slay and Ballard were the only two players that Mullen has recruited that's been drafted. The other guys in the that 09 class, were committed many months before Mullen took over.

I really have no idea what the context of the argument was because I didn't see the initial thread so I can't speak to what was being done there.
There is points to both sides of the argument, and I agree with both sides to an extent.
Also, I was obviously wrong about Banks and I'm not above admitting it.
It was a thread about putting players into the NFL. An MSU poster made this post:
quote:
Players put into the NFL during the Dan Mullen era at State:
Gabe Jackson - 3rd Round
Darius Slay - 2nd Round
Jonathan Banks - 2nd Round
Josh Boyd - 5th Round
Fletcher Cox - 1st Round
Vick Ballard - 5th Round
Charles Mitchell - 6th Round
Derrick Sherrod - 1st Round
KJ Wright - 4th Round
Pernell McPhee - 5th Round
Anthony Dixon - 6th Round
Jamar Chaney - 7th Round
# of Rebels drafted since 2010 - 4, with none in the first round.
Also,
I thought it was funny he used 2009 as a starting point for y'all, but used 2010 as a starting point for us...because we put 5 players into the NFL in 2009...2 being 1st round picks

btw DD, you might have been thinking about Slay. He was your last commit in the class right after Mullen was hired.
Yeah maybe so, but Slay committed to us out of high school and was a sign and place.
I started yesterday on the commitment list from 2009 and there were about 10 or so of the 20 something that committed after Mullen was hired on December 11, 2008. Probably 5+ of those were JUCO and scout may have had their sign date instead of the actual date they committed.

I can't believe I'm about to do this but here I go anyway
I can understand some of those players. Even if Mullen didn't "recruit them", those kids in the 2009 class still had at least 4 years of his coaching.
Mullen's first year

Slay committed 3 months after Mullen was hired.

Yeah, and then went directly to JUCO. What's your point?

Our coaches haven't been in contact with Pettway in awhile. I think most know what that means

They've learned to telepathically communicate?

I don't know what that means. Is it us or him?

That Mullen evaluated and recruited him. I'm giving props.
My point in the other thread was the user said Mullen era. The guys I said Mullen didn't recruit, I probably should have used a better term. Those guys were not scouted and evaluated by Mullen. Yes, he had to close the deal and hold on to them for the two months, but who knows if those guys would have been offered if Mullen had have been the head coach two years before.
frick, I wish I had a good example, but Nutt left Freeze with nothing. I guess, just imagine Moncrief was not recruited in high school(I would assume due to lack of competition or exposure) and in the 2012 recruiting class(that was Freeze's first signing, but didn't recruit most of them), but Nutt evaluated and evaluated and decided everyone was missing on Moncrief and that he was potential NFL talent. Now, Nutt gets fired and Freeze takes over. Yeah, Freeze holds on to him and signs him, but:
1) No one was recruiting him.
2) Freeze doesn't have time to extensively evaluate him. He can't be choosy when he only has 2 months to put a class together that other SEC staffs have has 2-3 years to build.
Does that make more sense? It doesn't really matter. Just kind of annoyed me that he tried to 'lol' at Ole Miss under a completely different criteria of his MSU boasting.

No idea, but I would assume with Longfellow coming in and the receiving class next year, it's us trying to lose him.
Plus, Arkansas fans have been saying for about a year, how they do not want Pettaway. Have always said he is vastly overrated.

If we choose to not talk to somebody that's our decision. Come on guys.

David Reports:
Josh McMillan may be in town this weekend for another visit. Once again, he announces on Aug 22.
Also, the "big commit" could be Denzel Mitchell....
