Somehow I keep seeing the Malik situation like the Jimmy Chitwood situation in "Hoosiers". Lots of fans ready to send Ray out the door after the poor first 2 seasons but if Malik comes on board we will take a "re-vote" on keeping Ray.

I've kind of been an observer to this whole Rick Ray fiasco. I went to a lot of home games last year and really enjoyed watching the effort those guys gave. That stems from coaching. I think he's been right on par with expectations.

I agree that he is a good basketball coach though his recruiting has definitely been lackluster (whether his fault or not). However, can't tell you how many places I've heard MSU people saying that to see progress we need to either have a winning season this year OR signing Malik will buy him more time and keep him off the hot seat. Guess that is what in my mind kind of conjures up the Hoosiers scene.

Yeah, he basically got a 2 year grace period. Now it's time for the rubber to meet the road.
Personally, I'm excited about basketball this year.

If Ray is smart he will do whatever it takes to get Newman. Landing a guy of that caliber could end up earning Ray millions in the long run.

Yep...
It would change the entire perception of him around the country too. Regardless of all our built-in advantages on Newman, that would be huge. Suddenly, a bunch of doors would open for him in recruiting that had previously been closed. And would probably go a long way toward getting the remainder of Stans' network on his side.

We are thin. I think Ready will have a lot more confidence this year like he showed at the end. With the addition of Daniels and a backup for Ware, they could do some damage imo. We will have to wait till practice starts and ask Darkhorse what kind of pressure Ray is putting on their knees before making a real prediction. But for real I am excited too.

Our players showed no lack of hustle. I've got a lot of confidence in Ray if he can get the talent side of the equation sorted out.
