If a player doesn't like it, he should transfer. I think the high school coach is doing a noble thing by making his players think, TRULY think, about their decision and making them stick with it. Obviously concessions could be made if the coach is fired, etc. but do your damn research before committing if you're concerned.

^^THIS^^

It forces players to not make emotional decisions but instead sit down and think hard about where they wanna go. They are getting hit from every side with how awesome they are and how awesome this school is its easy to get caught up and make an emotional decision. If you know that once you commit you are done then hopefully the kid doesn't bounce around on commitments

Other than the neck beard. He'll look back at that in 20 years and think...God, that looks dumb.

This weight loss could be good or bad. He looks like he could get blown off the line at that size.

Put him solely at DE.

That is a parents job. I'd laughin the face of a HS coach if he tried to tell my son what to do with OUR recruitment, not his.

Good, IMO. The weight loss gives Gabe Wright more speed, quickness and athleticism. It also makes him more capable of playing multiple positions along the defensive line. He's roughly 6'3, 275-280 pounds right now. He could be a bigger defensive end (a la Carlos Dunlap) or an undersized defensive tackle (a la Isaac Gross and Nosa Eguae) - or both.

I agree. He never was a space eater / run-stopper like some other DTs.

one of the best things about landing Ivey, if we get him, is that his school policy makes it where once he commits he is COMMITTED. No more visits, etc. Huge plus for us to know he's locked up.

He can change his committment after. The school just isn't going to facilitate it or arrange any festivities. The school can't force him to sign his name to a paper.

FWIW the trending thought is with Carl being out for who knows how long Gabe may get quite a bit of work at DE.

With how close he is with Chandler Cox and his coach (Chandler's dad), I imagine that if he commits it is over. Not saying something can't happen, just that it seems like a situation where he wouldn't break that rule without a super legit reason

Yeah I agree, when he commits it will likely be over. I'm just clarifying that Ivey and whomever else from that school is still free to sign whichever LOI they want come NSD.

It is for the most part. I was just reminding for those who may not have known.

Gabe has never been one to be all that stout at the point of attack. His strength is knifing through the DL to make a play, not really holding up an OL and just standing his ground. I would think that this would help him at that regard, though I wouldn't mind him getting back to at least 285-290.

I only wish we were able to put him through this transformation earlier so that it would be more solid. I think he will be pretty darn good at DE as an elite run stopper and someone who can bull rush like a champ on the outside

He can sign with whom ever he wants, however he can't use the school as a medium. Also, a coach can run his program how he sees fit and if he has the stones he can tell a 5* to kick dirt if he doesn't like the rules. Most parents want that type of discipline in their child's life.
