Seems like it. I don't understnd why the players don't have situational awareness. You don't want to leave them 1:20. Kneel at the 5, pound it a few times. With multiple timeouts and that great rushing attack, they would have been able to punch it in and seal their fate.

Thought about that but Seminoles are a good defense. If he goes down early there is no guarantee they score. There was only 1:20 left on the clock, the defense has to hold. Everyone is giving Winston the credit, the player of the game was the receiver Greene that split the two auburn defenders on that short pass and gained 50 yards on his own. If that guy gets tackled that play for only 8 yards auburn wins that game.

A few years ago when an NFL player did this he was lauded as a genius and a coach on the field. It's definitely not a conservative approach, but I think it would have been the best option. As soon as he scored I shook my head. Too much time to leave that team
You've never seen a player stop from scoring a TD and take a knee when they were BEHIND. Do you realize how many things can go wrong during a goalline series of downs?...Man, please!

we needed to score with less than 30 seconds leftbut your RB has an epic near 40 yard td run, oh well.

can't blame the offense or defense for anything in that game, but special teams you can.

Y'all played great, no blame.

Just think it would have worked.

And rise, please try a little harder to be offended.

Can't be guaranteed. He scored from 40 yards out. It's not like they were first and goal.

Auburn's D had to step up. They didn't. Auburn's offense didn't lose it.

This and a fit ending considering SEC defenses for the most part were not up to SEC standards this season. FSU looked more like an SEC team this season but then again it was easy for them to dominate in the weaker ACC. Statistically Auburn was the better team with more first downs, more total yards, more rushing yards and pretty even on passing yards. Auburn also controlled the time of possession holding the ball for over 7 minutes longer than FSU. Auburn's missed routine FG and the kickoff return for a TD by Whitfield was the difference in the game.

You guys are forgetting that the other option is letting the Heisman winning QB have the ball with 1:20 to go and 4 downs to get a 1st.

It's an easy question.

Do I trust my defense to stop in a 4 down system with 2 time outs, and 1:20 to go, or do I trust my offense to score a TD from the 1 yard line?

You take the knee. Sure you might lose the game but guess what (you did anyways).

It's funny that you talk about how stupid you'd look if you didnt' score a TD and missed an extra point fg to lose, but you dont' think it's a big deal they gave up a TD drive with 1:20 left.

There's about a 1% chance Auburn doesn't put up any points if they take a knee after mason's run, there's about a 40% chance FSU gets a TD drive with 2 TO's, a hot QB, and 1:20 to go.

Take the knee and take the conservative option, don't expect your D to make a stop they haven't been able to make the past few drives, when FSU was only using 3 downs to get 1sts.

I did too. Just felt like it. Even when AU was up 21-3 you just sort of knew that FSU was going to come back

Didn't feel that way at all in the beginning... Musburger kept exclaiming the shock of Auburn blowing FSU out. It looked like total domination at first. It seemed like FSU had the athletes to possibly come back and make it competitive, but I think Auburn fans were starting with the SEC chants early because it looked like it was over.

Gus was very conservative in the 3rd quarter. I really expected him to go back to his TD plays the play action with the fly and the post, and the screen to Mason. Instead he went ultra conservative and tried to sit on the lead. That wildcat play call was a completely wasted drive.

thank God as a Bama fan that is one area where Saban has done an outstanding job and it has never been a real problem for us.

but the problem remains fsu has two time outs.

now the heads up play night have been to stop on the one and wait but then scored.

probably been a flag though for taunting.

The problem with that suggestion is that as a coach, you don't know that your player is about to bust a big 37-yard run all the way to the end zone. It would be up to that player to stop and kneel at the 1 when everything in the world instinctively is telling him to power it in the end zone with just over a minute left in the national championship with his team trailing.

It wasn't like Auburn's D was a joke all game either. They had sacked and hit Winston a number of times. That short pass that turned into 49 yards was the killer. Auburn didn't give up many huge plays on the day and that was the killer. FSU just gutted it out. It happens sometimes.

When we scored, I immediately said we scored too soon.

FSU's offense had tons of success in the 2nd half. I know immediately when he broke that run I thought, damn he should take a knee there's too much time.

From a coaching perspective you just tell your guys before they go out there, hey if you break a run and there's over a minute to go, take a knee at the 1. We have the best rushing offense in the country you kneel at the one, we'll put it in and we won't leave them any time to answer.

Why would you put your trust in a shaky defense instead of an outstanding running game? I guess you like to lose more games than you have to?

And for the guy saying Saban doesn't do this, Saban is much worse than Gus about game theory.

Saban won't stop the clock when the other team has the ball. If it's 3rd and 15 and there's 45 seconds left he doesn't use a TO so our offense gets a chance he lets them run it out for halftime.

My wife was screaming go down when Mason crossed the 8-10 yard line during that long TD run. At 1st I thought she was crazy for thinking that, but I think Auburn would've scored with 1st & goal/4 downs. Auburn would've killed the clock or used a bunch more time while FSU used all their timeouts. Plus, that FSU defense was gassed from quick TD return after a long punishing drive by Auburn beforehand. My wife's 1st intuition during that Mason TD run was the correct one. She knew nothing about football when we met, but I've thaught her well......lol
