Nothing personal, no.

Musically, yes.

I know FMB will hate it, but it looks like Backroad Anthem has signed with the William Morris agency in Nashville.

They have like 19,000 fans on Facebook.

I've been hearing good stuff about Shawn James & the Shapeshifters from friends who keep telling me I need to go see them.

Is the 17th Floor (or whatever their name is) still around? Not sure if they were Fayetteville or LR, but they used to play both Dickson and the fraternity scene a lot about 10 years ago.

I'm pretty sure they were from Chicago but ran in the southern college town circuit.

Now that I think about it, you're right. They were just around Fayetteville so much back in the day that I assumed they were local.

Shawn James puts on a good show with or without the band. Flip Off Pirates are another great local band.

I was thinking Adam Faucett operated out of Hot Springs, he plays down there a ton and shot his last video there.

Nice pic, Backroad Anthem still blows though.

I've caught Shawn James before, he's pretty talented.

Anyone going to Leftover Salmon manana?

Two of my buddies I grew up with in high school are in Airplanes. They've been getting great reviews by some Indie mags recently. Not really my cup of tea normally but I enjoyed their show the other night at JR's. Really wish it was like the JR's of old bc watching a show there really sucks if it's busy at all. Layout is horrible to watch and the bass coming from downstairs was louder than the music upstairs at times

Also, Backroad just shot a video in Fay on Thursday, they had all these models/miss nebraskas etc in town and they were all at 21st Thursday night. It was a good night to be a single dude

Airplanes are great.

Speaking of indie love, Sw/mm/ng has been getting a ton lately. They got picked up by a Brooklyn label and are being pimped on Consequence of Sound ( which is a pretty big music blog in indie circles).

In concert news which I'm sure most already know: Avett Bros. In September and Drive By Truckers in October (I believe).

I really like Airplanes, too. Aren't a couple of the guys also in Swimming? Swimming played some shows at SXSW this past year.

Rob the drummer plays with a couple different bands in Fayetteville off and on. I do believe one or two of the other guys might be in swimming but not positive.

Shawn James is pretty good live. I see him out on Dickson all the time and he's extremely cool. He climbed a tree with me when we were drunk, once.

CMJ scene report.

3 pages to click through with some bands I haven't heard of here.

Fayetteville is probably the smallest town to be covered on Scene Report, and by a pretty large margin from what I’ve seen. It’s a college town that becomes densely populated (relatively speaking) while school is in session and then dramatically thins each summer, leaving the townies behind to decompress.
