Am I the only one who thinks the defense played well enough for us to win? The gameplan was good enough to win? And that Mettenberger's first half of not checking down cost us the game?

You are the only one. This loss doesn't fall on Mett shoulders alone

Pretty much

But the 3rd and 15 and the 3rd and 9 on the last drive are on the defense

How many times did Ole Miss punt? Twice?

540+ yards of offense fpr the Rebels.

Stellar defense, eh?

The turnovers killed LSU's offense, but every one of them were deep in Ole Miss territory. Ole Miss drove the ball all game on the Tigers after the first few series of the game.

Ole Miss was 6 for 8 on third down conversions in the second half.

The defense did its part in the loss.

Failure to make stops on third-and-a-mile.

look at most football games....

the team with the most rushing yards and fewest turnovers wins most football games....by a long shot...

After ole miss muffed the punt and we couldn't punch it in, I knew the Tigers were beat.

I agree. If you had told me OM would score 27, I would have told you we won by 2 TD's. Granted the defense did not look, but as far as points given up, they played well enough to win. I put this loss on the offense and game plan.

Our defense sucks.

The answer to your question is yes.

27 points to Ole Miss wasn't that big of a number considering how bad the LSU defense is. The offense/Mett lost this game. LSU needs to score 40+ on that Ole Miss defense Saturday night.

Early on it looked like the offensive line was getting out hustled.

Mett starts throwing terrible picks.

Several drops by RBs would have moved the chains.

Yes. Giving up 525 yds and all those 3rd downs is never good enough. Its the 8th game of the season and there has been zero improvement on the defense. Florida was a mirage because their offense is horrendous.

Average starting position on 3 picks: 17 yard line

Points off the 3 picks: 3

And only one pick was in the redzone...and that was the 2nd pick and LSU was at the 20.

The picks were not good...but they were far from costly turnovers that cost us the game.

It's a combo of D, picks and Miles.

Defense was pourous at best. Mett needs to learn how to look off one receiver and go to another one. He's a senior, and he'll need this skill to make it at the next level. Another question is "why did we abandon the running game with 5 minutes left in the third quarter"?? We were 10 points behind.
Also, the commentators said that LSU called the time out with only a few seconds on the clock. Wouldn't have made more sense to call it with 25 or so left so that we could position ourselves for a field goal of our own?
