As promised-
Notes on the running game, then I'm taking a break, and coming back to cover the rest of the offense.
UGA's running game, without Gurley and Marshall, is true freshman JJ Green and true freshman Brendan Douglas. There are also two fullbacks by the name of Quayvon Hicks and Merritt Hall.
Quayvon is a legit tough guy badass but is also a freshman. He's had great games and great plays in every game this year. Alot of it is stone cold skull thumping blocking, but he has also carried and received the ball well. He has at least one TD, maybe two. He is the one responsible for throwing the block that allowed Douglas to get his TD in the Tenn game... more on Douglas later.
JJ Green was recruited as a DB/CB type... doesn't have the full body size of the stereotypical SEC running back. During spring practice when he enrolled early, the coaching staff immediately moved him to backup RB. Perhaps the staff thought we were deep enough with DB's and LB's, and at the time, on paper, we were. The best accolade that JJ Green has received so far this year was a quote from Todd Gurley during Fall Camp a few short weeks ago: "He's got better footwork than I did when I first came in last year". The advantage Mizz has on this is the fact he's never played RB in his life until this year, and although alot of that is instinctual, alot of that is learned over the years as well.
Brendan Douglas is who we call ROWK. Roided Out White Kid. All the pics that were coming out of the practices and drills over the spring and summer made this kid look like Mr Universe with muscles and overall muscle tone that no true freshman should have without HGH. He actually got to carry the ball on cleanup duty vs SC and ran very well. If you are a white running back on an SEC team like UGA, that's a pretty good indication that you are dangerous. I don't know if it was Chapel or Chris Rock that said something to the effect of "when you see a white guy out on the football field, it's because he's the most dangerous motherfricker out there" or something like that. The popular gif among UGA fans at the moment is of him running people over in the SC game ... literally a white freshman coming out of nowhere and running people over vs Big Bad SC Defense. The potential advantage for Mizz is that he, like JJ Green, are brand spanking new, true freshmen.

The passing game starts with the offensive line.
The only guy on the line who was not a starter last year is Kolton Houston who has an interesting story. In high school, he had a shoulder injury. Part of the treatment included a banned substance. He was a 5 star recruit. He came to Georgia. For 3 years, he couldn't play because the banned substance was still in his bloodstream. He practiced and practiced and worked out, and was on the starting lineup every year until the season started, when his piss still wouldn't pass the test. Finally, this year, his piss passed the test.
The other guys are all veterans. There are no weak links in the UGA offensive line. There was alot of razzamatazz after the Clemson game because left tackle Gates and center Andrews each blew a block that resulted in a sack, but since that first game, they have both been flawless. Their pass protection is as good as their run blocking. Murray's veteran status and no-huddle scheme allow them all to be on the same page on every play from blocking assignments to snap count. UGA's biggest improvement over last year on the offensive line has been the lack of senseless penalties. Senseless penalties include personal fouls, false starts, and holding when not necessary. We all know that sometimes it's better to get a holding call than to not hold, in a particular situation. UGA's line seems to be doing a very good job of that, much like Bama's offensive line of 2012. Coach Will Friend, OL Coach, has been approached by Bama staff on multiple occasions. He is one of the best in the business.
For brevity, I won't go into the depth on OL.
Speaking of depth, and offense, let's get to the big question... receivers.
Malcome Mitchell tore his ACL vs Clemson.
Justin Scott-Wesley tore his ACL vs Tenn.
Michael Bennett tore his miniscus vs Tenn.
That still leaves Chris Conley, Reggie Davis, Rontavius Wooten, and Rhett McGowan.
You remember Chris Conley, he's the guy that mistakenly caught the tipped pass on 3rd and NC. He is a good receiver. He will be the deep threat.
Reggie Davis was SEC Freshman of the Week earlier this year, when he caught Murray's 100th career TD pass, which also set the school record for longest TD pass.... 98 yards. He can obviously do his job.
Rhett McGowan was a white walk-on, but is a great slot receiver and worked his way to 2nd team at slot. He even caught a TD pass vs Bama last year, and another one in the bowl game vs Nebraska. He is a long hair hippie type, but he is tough as nails without fear of getting creamed over the middle by a safety, and he has everyone's respect for being a walk on that worked his way into the rotation and earning his scholarship on the college level vs college competition. In other words, he isn't exactly coming off the bench because of the injuries, he has played in every game this year.
Wooten has been unable to crack the starting rotation for 3 years which means there is something wrong with him. But whenever he actually does play, he does well. I can only assume there are off-the-field issues because his game play recently has been good.
Finally, Aaron Murray. But you didn't come here to read about him. You can read all about him everywhere else.
Taking another break.... I'll come back with defense notes and a final summary... putting the pieces all together... how mizzou can take this information and make it work for them, like one of Bob Horner's japanese whores.

Defensive line and outside linebackers...
UGA plays a 3-4 with the recent linemen being returning starter senior Garrison Smith, originally DE but now playing nose, junior Sterling Bailey who was never a starter until the SC game, also originally listed as a DE but now more of a tackle, and junior Ray Drew, also not a starter until this year. Drew was a 5 star recruit coming in, and just now, this year, starting as a junior. Firstly, it's harder to crack the rotation as a lineman in a 3-4, because there are only 3 starters. Secondly, Drew's own recent self-analysis to the paper was something like "We live in a microwave oven world, where everybody expects everything right now. The best food comes out of the crock pot. I've just been stewing in the crock pot." Drew is a deep-south African American that listens to country music. He also has sacks against LSU and Tenn.
Sterling Bailey is a bit of a surprise, at least to me. He originally came in as a 4 star linebacker, but the kid kept getting bigger. He was moved to DE, and couldn't crack into the starting rotation. He kept getting bigger, so now he's more of a tackle, playing an end position in the 3 man front. He had 10 tackles vs SC, and a couple half-sacks, playing the interior.
Garrison Smith is one of our defensive stars returning from last year. He didn't get alot of publicity because he played on the same side as Jarvis Jones; Garrison's disruptions were responsible for a lot of Jarvis' success.
Speaking of Jarvis Jones, his heir is Jordan Jenkins. He's a redshirt sophomore that was yet another 5 star recruit. There are great photographs of him doing acrobatic things in practice and in game play, sick stuff that makes a dawg fan think "Oh My God, this guy is a freak.." but so far, he has no sacks. He is the outside linebacker on the weak side with pass rush duty on pretty much every pass play.
The other outside linebacker on the strong side is true freshman early enrollee Leonard Floyd. He was a 4 star kid that graduated early and immediately started knocking older, higher rated guys out of the way in Spring practice to make an immediate impact this season. He leads the linebackers in sacks. At this time, I will take the time to note that just because there are alot of young players on the defense doesn't mean UGA just didn't have anyone else to play... these young kids on defense won their spots against older and in many cases higher rated guys.
The two middle linebackers are Amarlo Herrera and Ramik Wilson. I'll talk about them next.

Amarlo Hererra is a junior and defensive leader of sorts, the press coming out on him is that he's the guy that drives everyone harder in the film room, the weight room, the drills, and the scrimmages. He was a starter last year as well, and was also a 5 star recruit originally. There aren't alot of fireworks for him because he basically plugs holes and makes tackles, but he can chase the outside play as well as anyone. He also gets ball-punch happy, and popped one out vs Clemson. He's not just trying to bring your running back down, he's trying to get that ball. If another lineman or linebacker can help hold you up, he's by damn going to try to get that ball out of your hands.
Ramik Wilson is the other middle linebacker. He's the other middle linebacker.
Too much is made of UGA's secondary. They aren't that shitty. Their opponents have included Zach Mettenberger who leads the league in QB rating and has two top shelf receivers... Tajh Boyd who is a projected first round draft pick, senior, dual threat, with another future NFL receiver Sammy Watkins, and believe it or not, the QB for North Texas, I forget his name, had thrown for an average of 400 + yards in all his games leading up to the UGA game, and as Richt said, it doesn't matter who your competition is (in regard to N Tex qb), you don't put up those kind of numbers unless you are executing.
Yes, UGA's secondary is young. But Damien Swann is a junior and returning starter from last year, led the team in interceptions last year. None this year.
True Freshman phenom safety Tray "The Truth" Matthews will probably be out again, was out vs Tenn, hamstring. Hamstring has been hurting him since the summer. Multiple guys have rotated to replace him, so far none have done particularly well.
The other safety, slash nickel, is Josh Harvey-Clemons. He was yet another 5 star recruit 3 years ago, and is just now starting full time. He was recruited as a linebacker at 6-5 but wasn't able to put on the weight we hoped for, so at around 220 he is just a big safety. Our defensive coordinator said they had to create a position for him because he is too athletic to sit on the bench, so he is a safety nickel thing that Grantham calls "Star". He is probably the best guy in the secondary right now.
The other corner spot is unknown. Several guys have played it this year, there has been rotation. Noone has locked that position down yet. Mettenberger and Worley and Connor Shaw and Tajh Boyd have pretty much made everyone look bad.
So how does mizzou capitalize on this?
