You are good to go. Jarheads can cheer for any fricking team they want and can change that team if they want, no questions asked.

don't like this definition.

A sidewalk fan, to me, is one who didn't attend AND only pulls for a team when that team is having a relative amount of success.

I did attend UA, but if I hadn't, so what?

My dad raised me an Alabama fan, I've been loyal when we were shitty.

There are some shitty arse fans that attended the universities they cheer for, so why don't we call fans simply good fans or bad fans?

This, class of 84

While I prefer greenways, I like sidewalks well enough. I am a fan of concrete.

That's a bandwagon fan.

A sidewalk fan is someone who cheers for the team without attending the university. I agree, there are some great sidewalk fans as well as really shitty alum fans.

Touchy much this morning? Let's clarify a little bit more, then-

most of the belligerent, obnoxious fans, the ones the opposing fanbases have problems with (you know the type- you can't carry on a reasonable conversation with them if you don't have the right colors on)- will be that level of "sidewalk". They're loyal to the local power program, because that's all they ever hear about, and they have no concept of other parts of the world.

Military folks don't (usu) fall into that because they've been exposed and educated, while in the services.

Regarding the "billy badass" comment- we all know that guy- he's fricking trashed, he talks shite, he might get into fights because "his team" lost (or hell, before the game because someone else traveled to watch their own team, and had the misfortune of meeting with mr badass). As I said, most of those guys never got into the school they support, and they give the term "sidewalk" a bad name.
