Sidewalk here. I was an LSU fan long before I went to NLSC/NLU/ULM.

Are you asking people if they're sidewalk or asking if they attended the school?

I don't like this definition.

A sidewalk fan, to me, is one who didn't attend AND only pulls for a team when that team is having a relative amount of success.

I did attend UA, but if I hadn't, so what?

My dad raised me an Alabama fan, I've been loyal when we were shitty.

There are some shitty arse fans that attended the universities they cheer for, so why don't we call fans simply good fans or bad fans?

Good points. I've also noticed that an extremely high percentage of fans who did not actually attend a school only pull for football. Grads tend to be a little more invested in the overall sports program.

And to answer the original question, no not a sidewalk. Class of '09.

No. Class of 2000 (damn, I'm getting old).

But we all depend on non-alum to fill our massive stadiums, contribute to the coffers, and pump up the TV ratings to make the SEC what it is, so who really cares? I have a lot of friends who are fans of schools they didn't attend for a variety of reasons (went to different schools for academic reasons, some of which have little to no athletics, military, started own business without need for college, didn't have the money starting out to go to college, etc.).

I see a difference between sidewalk fans and bandwagon fans.

Agree that is a sidewalk fan

Bandwagon

I don't really think that a sidewalk fan is a bad thing though. Just mho.

To me the football only fan is the classic sidewalk fan.

Those who support the other supports are not sidewalk fans.

Not that there is any thing wrong with that.
