Martins is off of Villa Maria on South College. It's kind of caddy-corner to Carney's. Pretty good chopped/sliced sandwhiches. Lunchtime only. It's better than J.Codys, C&Js or Juneks.
You are right though it's mostly just good around there not great.

I live in Austin and always try to hit Snow's on the way to a game in CS on a Saturday morning. Get there after about 11 and you will be lucky if any brisket is left. Get there at Noon and they typically just have a few links of sausage (ribs, chicken, and turkey gone).

It is in BFE and its not even on the main path going through Lexington. Just has a couple tiny signs off the road directing you there. Starting at 8AM though they open and it goes fast, they sell about 70 briskets in 3 hours or so. The guys who run it have regular jobs and just make it Friday night and are drinking beer by 1pm on Saturday, not a bad gig.

That's saying a lot. That means I have to drive to that craphole CS again. Better get a front end alignment before I go this time. Those damn gravel roads are rough on my Rolls Royce

I have to ask because you didn't list it. Have you had barbeque at Coopers, in Llano?

Martins in Bryan? Fargos moved in after I left and I haven't tried it but aside from the rant, I haven't heard any family or friends in BCS talk about it either.

Coopers is alright. Not the best, not average.

Martins flat out sucks. Fargos is pretty good but I think it's really overrated. Austin owns BBQ. Thinking pork is the only real BBQ is as laughable as the people who think it's hard to make it. Briskets and Beef Ribs makes pork shoulder look like childs play. And fricking l oh motherfricking l at you people who define your BBQ by a sauce. Pathetic.

Beef doesn't count as real BBQ

Anyone who believes this is truly retarded (probably 80 percent of the SEC - Missouri and A&M excluded)...

Hmm, I haven't eaten at Martins in probably 15 years. They used to be the best around BCS and sauce on BBQ is amateur hour.

I am BBQ/Smoking fanatic..

This is what makes the SEC special. From TX to MO all the way over to SC. Such awesome BBQ and variety. Pork, beef, chicken, turkey. So many great sauces/rubs. Love it. Would be awesome to have SEC BBQ playoffs...

City market in Giddings isn't too bad as well. There is a place on US 59 between Hiljie and Louise called Mustang Creek (not Prasek's) that is damn good too.

Oh, and if it needs sauce, it ain't good 'cue. Kind of like putting ketchup on a steak.

Exactly...if someone ruins their meat with sauce, they are not qualified to voice an opinion. They don't know BBQ.

If you can't enjoy the natural taste of meat, you are not a man.

Any good BBQ should. We're not talking Louisiana crock-pot BBQ.

Respectfully disagree. While I get yall's points, BBQ sauce is to BBQ as to salsa is to mexican food. It's the base and the icing on the cake. So many great choices to escalate the flavors with heat, sweet whatever. Good slow smoke after rub, and delicious sauce to boot, ala ribs.

BBQ here (at least in BR) SUCKS!
There are few places, and one chain, VooDoo BBQ, that sucks.

I came from a small town in GA, where there was a BBQ shaq on every corner, with most of them doing Carolina style BBQ. Would have BBQ at least once a week. There is absolutely no where I have found yet in BR that serves even close to decent BBQ.

I used to be married to a girl from Augusta and lived there from 92-94. First time i have ever had BBQ hash on rice. It was pretty good. I used to get some hella good peaches at a farm between N.Augusta and Aiken too.
