Ivory was a drop off last year when he came in for Jesse. But Jesse was a drop off from Chapman and Chapman from Cody. I think Ivory comes into his own this year, and solidifies the middle.

Ehhhhh you're probably right. When Jesse was at his best I'd say he was better than Chapman, Chapman was consistent every play, but Jesse would go high a lot.

I seriously doubt that statement. I have watched SEC football since the late 70s. The best defense I think Bama fielded was the 92 national title team that skull fricked the U.

It's so hard to argue against that. I keep going back and forth on 1992 and 2011. Such different styles.

While Bama's defense will certainly be good and probably great, there is almost no chance it will be as good as the '92 or '11 defenses.

The first 9 of this defense could be very, very good. The only thing I worry about is the CB's. They'll be ok, but I don't know if they'll be great. Maybe.

For this to be true, multiple players will have to suddenly become superstars for the first time in their careers.

No way this year's DL is even in the same conversation as 92. So if this defense is going to be legendary, it will have to be at LB and secondary. I could see Ha Ha and Landon Collins being the shiznit at safety, but neither of our starting corners get me giddy. Dre and Menzie were certainly better, not to mention Langham and Tommy Johnson. At LB, I do buy into CJ being amazing and I love Trey DePriest. But run stopping is not their strength, and coupled with what I believe is a "good but not great" DL, I see us as a quite impressive but still mortal defense.

You can never say going into a season that your defense will be the greatest of all time, so I have to admit the possibility. College players sometimes transform from one season to another. But the likelihood of this defense outshining 92 or 2011 is remote.

Now the OFFENSE, on the other hand...:)

All I got to say is this. Are any of us so called football fans really that blind to think that us and Bama as of right now to date will not just continue to bring the next man up and be ready to go. This is where both of these programs are right now especially on defense.

I can understand the developments of QB's and OL. These groups have to gel together.

Actually, Connor is the son of Wes and the grandson of Bama legend Billy Neighbors. And he still is at LSU....

Yep....I was wondering when someone would catch that.

Hey, the guy is a hard worker and wants to play football. He happened to find a home here. More power to him.

Sometimes that's just how things fall out. I remember a few years ago Alabama gave Eddie Lacy an opportunity when some schools (including LSU) fell off due to questionable academics. Obviously, that worked out well for him.

Connor Neighbors has worked his arse off to gain his rightful spot on the roster here. He certainly deserves credit for that....

When he posts a negative thread about Alabama he's an "insider", but when he posts a positive one he's a "clown"!

Tuscaloosa (I was born and raised there), being a celebrity ain't all it's cracked up to be. ....I knew this shite was coming.

This right here. Then again I don't understand the cheap shot at the young kid.

His nephew walked on at LSU a few years ago because he wasn't good enough to play at Alabama.

Y'all cut Tuscaloosa some slack. He's still growing into his celebrity.

CJ Mosley, who was a key member of the 2011 defense, said on Twitter that he was excited about this defense. In a reply Xzavier Dickson said it'd be the best to ever come through Bama, and CJ agreed.

Not good.

Remember the pankake posse going into 2000? These guys are starting to believe their own hype.

Compare yourself to 2011 or 1992 AFTER the season. Not before.

Because those squads earned it. And for the record I think the 2011 was more effective than 1992, but not as much fun to watch. 1992 gave up a little more but took more risks.

God that was a bad year. I lost my voice after that Southern Miss debacle and knew Dubose would be toast after that.

This D will have to really step it up to be in the same league as '92 and '11.

Bama's 92 D is still, to this day, one of the best I have ever seen.

On paper this defense is well behind some of the others in terms of proven NFL talent:

1) 2009
2) 2011
3) 2012
4) 2010
5) 2013
6) 2008
7) 2007

Where things land, who knows, but I know that just looking at the secondary we only have 1 kid who is currently on a first round track whereas some previous squads like 2012 had 3-4 (Dre K, Barron, Milliner, HaHa etc).

Depth might be the best we've had, but all of that remains unproven at this point.
