Texas just flipped S Jamille Johnson from North Carolina (who recently flipped from Oklahoma too ha)

The thing peculiar about this is that there are rumblings that DeShon Elliot is looking to get out and go elsewhere and he wants to set up an OV with us, Tech, and Oklahoma (along with Texas ho-hum). We have 3 safeties committed already and one more we are working on (Marvell Tell).... would we reconsider adding Elliot? The season is young but he's having a pretty good senior year so far. Personally, I think that ship has sailed but he is a pretty good prospect at safety. Stay tuned? Or is this a wash in the pan?

No. We have 20 ships covered. We can take a max of 28. We are saving room for

- ATH Merritt
- WR Kirk
- LB Jefferson
- CB Sheffield
- a RB
- an interior OL
- another LB

That leaves one open spot and it's obviously precious. We won't want to fill it til January unless a truly elite guy wants to jump on board like a Tyron Johnson or Marvell Tell. Space is definitely an issue at this point.

A poster on another board that's an A&M grad supposedly went to go watch Merritt play. He was befriended by a guy in the stands, got to talking about college football, and soon learned it was Kirk Merritt's dad. From his discussions, it seems it's an A&M, Oregon and Auburn raise, with A&M potentially in the lead. Merritt plays WR in HS due to a terrible OL, but is warming up to the possibility of playing RB in college. Terry Joseph's brother is Merritt's personal trainer.

Thought I'd pass along the info. Pretty interesting stuff, and really hope we can land him. Kid is a freak athlete.

In our offense (or Oregon's) the best role for him is probably to play a little of both. He's a dynamic athlete in space and I really hope we land him

Agreed. I really like his tape. The guy can fly, but also seems extremely physical.

He also has a 46" vertical.

I still think that one is a long shot. At this point, I think it's Quarte Sapp or Cassius Peat. Both will be in town for the Ole Miss game.

My 8:

Obviously
- ATH Merritt
- WR Kirk
- LB Jefferson
- CB Sheffield

+
- RB Jamabo
- OL Weathersby (flip: Ledwik/Tipoti/Gustafson/Tank to center/guard)
- Best available LB
- Best defensive player available OR Tyron Johnson

The LSU melt from taking merritt and TJ would be better than speedy IMO.

My wish list in order:

1)malik
2)sheffield
3)TJ
4)kirk
5)soso
6) merritt
7) omenihu for the lulz
8) best OL option

I have a feeling that if we spend a significant portion of this season near the top of the polls we'll be trap dooring some of the lesser guys currently committed.

Like who? Besides the lb who is hurt, forget his name. Rest of the class seems solid

Riley Garner (LB you are referring to). And given Sumlin's history, if he does in fact have a career ending injury, I still see us giving him a spot.

The only guy I could think of that we may try to push out is DCS, but given his LA location and on the field performance, I don't see us cutting ties with his either.

I've read as low as 26 may be the number for this class.
