I was told this was a possibility when we added Jackson but we wanted him to decide to do so, not us, because we didn't want to piss off MGCCC. They pretty much pump out talent and we didn't want to burn that bridge.

ETA: after reading that, it looks like UGA did us a huge favor by pushing that angle and getting him thinking about it (and also we can blame them if the MGC coaches are pissed)

yeah, I can't remember the exact details now since it's been a couple of months but I asked wtf we would not push him to come in and supposedly Price talked to their coaches and they thought it would be a doosh move to steal him from them so we backed off (and they know we know and backed off which puts a gold star by our name).

People don't often think about it, but JUCO coaches need to win too and taking their best players can majorly piss them off. They found and recruited Evans out of high school and in cases like that, they usually want 2 years out of them. MGC puts at least 2-3 players into the SEC every year so you don't want to be buried there.

It's why the whole Jackson scenario was just weird as he didn't even play a down for Blinn.

If he got in, would Evans be able to play this year?

yes, he was a full qualifier out of high school. He has played 1 year so he has 4 years to play 3.

He doesn't have a whole whole lot of film, but he looks pretty solid. He's #1 JUCO safety and has offers from several other big time programs.

Evans enrolling by fall would be huge, God knows we need the depth this season. But would he count against the 14' class like Jackson even though he's currently slated as a 15' guy? Maybe that would help us also with a guy like Marvell Tell as well.

yes, we've only used 22 of the 25 slots. We can add 3 more to the class either now or with early enrollees.

Not sure I follow how this is at all related

Per Hamm, he's staying JUCO until December.

24/7 fan base went apeshit upon hearing about that too.... but based off how tmc said it, it makes sense on why he's coming later rather than sooner.

Just saw an article that said he went to Dawg Night. A&M told him to stay one more year in JUCO so he could learn the playbook. UGA has an offer on the table and with their weakness at secondary could possibly use him this season. Any way he decommits and goes to UGA so he sees the field this year. According to the article that is a possibility. Or am I missing something?

I think even if that happens, A&M was looking at not poisoning the well over one player.

Strategically, not a bad play although we may lose a player.

JUCO recruiting is 99% about relationships. It's not like you have a lot of good film or recruiting sites to lead you the way. You get a call from a coach to go look at a kid. Coaches call people they trust and who won't frick them over. This isn't just about MGC but it's also about reputation in general.

We got a call on Evans and were on him first. Backstabbing the guy that gave you the tip to begin with gets around.

Anyway, all of this nonsense could have been avoided if Hamm had better sources. A simple phone call and you don't post this and there isn't a huge thread whining and saying things like Terry Joseph should be fired over this. I'm sure that sits well with him. Letting this turn into a mob tantrum was just fricking dumb.

Btw, if this were happening or likely to happen, I think the JUCO coach would encourage him to go to A&M instead. The harder UGA pushes, the more likely he enrolls now at A&M imo.
