Yep...even Rivals has Lewis as their #1 JUCO DE, Palmer as their #1 JUCO OL, and Durant as their #1 JUCO LB. Sawyer is their #3 JUCO DE and #15 JUCO overall, but Rivals hasn't yet listed Sawyer as a 2015 commit for USC. Jones is their #1 JUCO DT, so it sounds like these guys are studs....

Sure does!
That's pretty amazing actually. I used to be wary of signing JuCos, but we've never signed this many highly rated JuCos before so there must be a gameplan for it ... I guess with the kids leaving early these days like they do?
Plus, I was kind of surprised to see how many JuCos Nick Saban signs when he can.

Joseph Charlton was just listed as the #1 Kicker for the 2015 class by 247.
So in January Charlton got a private kicking coach. The coach has been telling people that Charlton is now able to consistently kick through the uprights on kickoffs from the 35 yd line. If that is true, I'll be ecstatic. I can only imagine how our team would have done the past couple of seasons if we had a kicker/punter who would have lead the conference in Net KO's and Punting. This guy can't get here soon enough. I can't wait to see his highlights from this coming season to see if that's just all talk or can he really do that.

jaire Alexander, one of our more unheralded CB recruits had a big game Friday. He played both WR and CB. He recorded 7 receptions for 61 yards and 2 TD's. He also had 1 punt return for 35 yards, 2 tackles and 1 INT. He made the Saturday morning highlight reels on the local Charlotte stations.

Along the way, the standout defensive end and South Carolina commitment would like to reverse his slide in national recruiting rankings.
“I’ve got something to prove. Really I should be No. 1,” he said after Friday night’s 75-0 season-opening win over Battery Creek. “Film shows it ... No. 1 in the country. That’s where I should be.”
quote:
Blackshear notices changes from any network, occasionally venting frustrations via social media.
“It bothers me, but not really,” he said. “Ratings to me don’t matter any more. Some of the best players rating-wise, on the field they’re nothing. I’ve seen that before.”
Blackshear had three significant injuries before the halfway point of 2013: a left shoulder AC join sprain (first game); a small crack in his left wrist; and a badly dislocated left pinky that required offseason surgery. He played through all his ailments.
quote:
He started Friday’s season opener with four tackles and a 10-yard touchdown run.
“I’m not disappointed in my performance,” he said. “The outsides weren’t getting any action. Every time they ran up the middle, the nose guard and two inside backers were eating it up, every play. Even our safeties were complaining about not getting any tackles. That’s how I know someone else was doing their job real good.”
quote:
“All I can do is change it myself by my game play,” he said. “Whenever it’s time to show and all the recruits are there and we’re at the Under Armour game in December, that’s when everybody will know what I’m about. Top five – that’s where I’m going to be at.”

This class seems really exceptional.
I never thought I'd see the day. This honestly makes me so happy.
If we have another good year, or better, then the worm has definitely turned.

We have a good shot to flip:
DJ Jones
Jaquan Johnson
Tyrek Cole
We have a distant shot, but still technically a chance to flip:
Minkah Fitzpatrick
Jordan Scarlett
I think some guys who have a legit shot of bumping up in the rankings with great seasons are:
Blackshear to a 5* if he dominates
Mon Denson is a beast, he could bump to 4*
Turner could bump to 4* as well.
M Lewis to 5* if ESPN lists him as one.
Pittman will remain at 4* but jump up the rankings, he's too good.
Palmer to 4* once ESPN ranks him.
Sawyer is a 4* lock once ESPN and Scout rank him.
If Jaire Alexander has more games like the one on Friday, he might have enough highlight reel to justify a bump to a 4*
Those are just possibilities, in reality only a couple of them might bump in the rankings, or commit here.

VA 4* DE, Darrell Taylor is planning an OV to SC this season. His OV list will be Va Tech (his CB Leader), florida, tennessee, SC and Oh St.
IDK if we are really interested as we have so many DE's already committed. I do know that Deke was higher up on him than Ferrell from VA, however, this was all before Key re-committed.
ETA: n/m, 247 said he's not a take for SC. we are full at DE.

SC rescinded the offer to '15 WR Michael Bowman after his larceny arrest. He allegedly stole 16 Mac products from an elementary school. No word yet if Auburn is now pursuing him.

Anyone heard anything about Blackshear's MRI yet?

His x-ray came back negative for any kind of bone damage. They won't know the extent of the ligament damage until the MRI results come back in, he should know more on Friday.

4* LB Amonte Caban will decide b/w Wednesday and Monday. He said SC is the favorite.

Pretty sure I read yesterday that he's expected to miss 4-6 weeks but is expected to be back this season.

2015 4* SDE Camden Military Academy (prep school) and former 2014 USC commit Dexter Wideman has now officially re-committed to USC per 247sports. He is the 28th member of the 2015 class, effectively taking the spot left open by the removal of WR prospect Michael Bowman. Not that the coaching staff is literally giving Wideman Bowman's scholarship, as it was planned all along that he would be a part of the 2015 class. He just takes the 28th spot on the list at this time...
Also, news Thursday that 2015 high 4* LB commit Sherrod Pittman will be an early enrollee at USC, expecting to enroll in January. So add another possible EE count-back to the 2014 cycle...

This is huge, his rating stayed the same since HS, so that's fair, but what's really awesome is Prep doesn't count against your NCAA eligibility limit. Technically, he still has 5 years to play 4 even after this Prep season. So in 2 years (the 2016 season) he'll either be a RS Fr or a Soph even though he'll be 3 years out of HS.

This is big news, that means he's probably signed that FInancial Aid doc we sent to him giving us unlimited contact with him the rest of the way. Also, he'll get an extra Spring Practice out of this to learn the defense we run.
I read that Davon Durant is also on track academically to graduate in December, his JUCO Coach reported. I think Davon might RS this coming year though, which would actually be a really good move for him as there will be a bunch of Jr's on our current roster who have been running our system for 3 years already and Davon can take over for them when they leave early or challenge the ones that stay for their Sr year, which would be his RS Jr year.

Blackshear put up on social media that he would be out 3 weeks, but he hasn't had that MRI yet. I hope he gets the MRI and doesn't try to rush things. The only thing that matters is coming to SC healthy and ready to contribute year 1, he already has an offer. He might just want to play this season so he can have the opportunity to do well and have his rating bumped back up, but his future self shouldn't give a damn about that.

OK, I really didn't think we should start up a thread for the 2015 recruiting class as it's so far away, but with all of the activity going on with that cycle, and with the 2014 class being so small and it's 2/3rds done anyways, that the 2014 recruiting thread is getting populated with a bunch of discussion for the '15 cycle.
We really need a specific thread to discuss those goings on without running the 2014 thread off the tracks, so here is the 2015 recruiting thread for future discussion. Thus far the '15 class is starting out in totally unprecedented fashion for USC, with several elite prospects already committed.
Commitments to this cycle's class(site star ratings=Rivals/24-7/ESPN/Scout):
WDE Shameik Blackshear (4*/97 grade 4*/4*/4*)
SDE Marquavius Lewis (4*/97 grade 4*/4*/NR/5*)
CB Mark Fields (4*/97 grade 4*/4*/4*)
SDE Dexter Wideman (NR/96 4*/NR/NR)
WDE Arden Key (4*/95 4*/4*/4*)
ATH Jalen Christian (4*/95 4*/4*/4*)
WDE Dante Sawyer (4*/95 4*/4*/4*)
OT Austin Clark (4*/93 4*/4*/3*)
ILB Davon Durant (4*/92 4*/NR/4*)
DUAL QB Lorenzo Nunez (4*/92 4*/3*/4*)
OLB Sherrod Pittman (4*/92 4*/4*/3*)
OT Paris Palmer (4*/91 4*/NR/3*)
CB/S Octavius Johnson (4*/90 4*/4*/3*)
OG Zack Bailey (4*/89 3*/4*/3*)
RB A.J. Turner (3*/89 3*/3*/4*)
S Antoine Wilder (3*/89 3*/3*/3*)
OT Christian Pellage (3*/88 3*/4*/4*)
RB Mon Denson (3*/87 3*/3*/3*)
DT Jozie Milton (3*/87 3*/3*/3*
WR Dexter Neal (4*/87 3*/4*/3*)
WDE Quandeski Whitlow (3*/85 3*/3*/3*)
TE Connor Redmond (3*/85 3*/3*/3*)
CB Damon Arnette (3*/84 3*/NR/3*)
OLB Jalen Henry (2*/84 3*/3*/2*)
CB Jaire Alexander (3*/84 3*/3*/2*)
TE Kyle Markway (3*/83 3*/3*/3*)
WR Jerad Washington (3*/82 3*/3*/2*)
K Joseph Charlton (NR/NR/NR/NR)
28 Total Commits - currently the 3rd-ranked national class for 2015 and 3rd in SEC per 247Sports, and the 2nd-ranked national class and 2nd in SEC per Rivals...
This is probably going to be the best class we've ever had at SC since they start tracking them on the internet.
We're at #3 on Rivals, but they haven't added Wideman or Sawyer to that list, both are high 4*'s on there and we'll move up to #2 as soon as they do that. Once that happens we'll be a lock for a Top 10 class on Rivals. IF some other things happen and we flip a 4* RB like Scarlett and DT like Jones, then we'll most likely have a Top 5 class.
https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/teamrank/2015/all/all;_ylt=AqYVz3u.V7VPGG.POB_0VW5DPZB4
On 247's site rankings we're #2 right now with 276 pts. That should be good enough to be at or just outside of the final Top 5 as it stands now.
https://247sports.com/Season/2015-Football/TeamRankings
ESPN has us 7th, but is really off since they don't have any of our four 4* JUCO's rated, nor Wideman. This is one of the things that's bringing down our 247 Composite score.
https://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/2579/south-carolina
When it's all said and done with them, we'll probably have a Top 5ish class, espcially if all 5 waiting to be rated are 4*'s and we get 1 or 2 flips mentioned earlier.
Scout still exists, believe it or not. They underrated Palmer, Clark, and Bailey, but we're still #4 on their rankings, and they don't have Wideman or Sawyer listed. We'll probably be just inside of their the Top 10 when it's all said and done.

When you look at our first game and then look at the recruits we're bringing in, at least it appears we'll be addressing some of the critical needs.
Spec Teams
K/P Joseph Charlton #1 in the country.
Hull did better and Kickoffs weren't bad, but this guy has an elite leg. If they rated kickers higher than 3*'s on the sites, he would be a 5* kicker.
Pass Rush
6 DE's coming in, five 4*'s and 3 of them are atleast 1 year out of HS. 2 are EE's for Jan and hopefully the rest will be here by Summer 1. Our DE Corp is instantly upgraded to above par in the SEC.
WDE Shameik Blackshear (4*/97 grade 4*/4*/4*)
SDE Marquavius Lewis (4*/97 grade 4*/4*/NR/5*)
SDE Dexter Wideman (NR/96 4*/NR/NR)
WDE Arden Key (4*/95 4*/4*/4*)
WDE Dante Sawyer (4*/95 4*/4*/4*)
WDE Quandeski Whitlow (3*/85 3*/3*/3*)
Pass Defense
Youth was more of our problem than talent, but there is really good talent coming in this cycle and some EE's.
Fields will challenge to start next year from the get go. Damon and Jaire are really solid 3*'s, but Jaire may bump, he had another great game Friday. He's a WR/CB/KR/PR for Rocky River and he makes a lot of plays.
CB Mark Fields (4*/97 grade 4*/4*/4*)
CB/S Octavius Johnson (4*/90 4*/4*/3*)
CB Damon Arnette (3*/84 3*/NR/3*)
CB Jaire Alexander (3*/84 3*/3*/2*)
