commit #27...Joseph Charlton, a kicker from AC Flora.

Yep we even gave him a scholarship. He must be a good one...

Kohl's Kicking Website,a ranking site solely for kickers, rate Charlton as the #5 overall punter. He'll be a punting and kick-off specialist for us, I guess. Here's what Kohl's has to say about him:

quote:

Joe came to one Kohl's event, has freakish leg strength, one of the most talented hs k/p we have ever seen, FG in college will probably not happen for Joe but has hit 5.3 hang-times on punts and 4.6 hangs on KO's in front of Kohl's staff, upside is huge

Sounds like help for our beleaguered special teams is on the way!!

I'll start by saying I think whoever did his film editing helped him. He had a bunch of really good kicks scattered in the middle and end, I guess they did it chronologically and not with any thought that a prospective coach might look at this and see some early kicks that were meh, and go on to the next recruit.

He is a MUCH better punter than PK. His Punts were almost all over 45 yards for a Jr in HS, and that's awesome b/c our current guy only avg's 37 yards for a 4th year collegiate player....

This guy could punt for us right now. He's got good hangtime on both his KO's and Punts, but he doesn't have much range or consistency on KO's (even though he's kicking form the 40.) He can punt though, he can definitely punt, and that's what we need right now.

He has a big frame, 6'5" we can add muscle to him, I don't think that will be a problem. A couple years with Connelly and we should have this guy up to 210 lbs and booming 50 yard kicks with over 5.5 seconds of hang time.

I see what Kohl said, the upside is there, but he needs coaching and S&C development. Wasn't it Kohl that rated Hull really high too?

Pretty crazy for me because I went to Flora.

What are the chances this kid is really 6'5 180 though? Thats straight gumby status

We definitely needed a punter in this class.

The kid evidently impressed the coaches at our camp. Was banging 55 yard punts with 5+ secs of hang time like it was easy.

247 said he's not a take for us anymore. His shot at our roster was lost when Bailey and Pellage committed. If something very unlikely happened and Ivey or Burrell wanted in, we would take their commitment, but Sandifer isn't a take at this point in time.

He's gonna be a Gator.

I think we're probably done along the OLine, are we not?

We're down to the nitty gritty and still in need of DLinemen and another big time RB and QB.

I guess. I thought we would take both Bailey and Sandifer but apparently I was wrong.

I don't think we need either RB or QB unless its Frazier. And we don't need any more DEs, just DTs

Frasier would have been great, but I don't know if he'll even visit. The Scarlett guy said he would visit, probably with Damon, so we might be able to flip him.

I agree, we're done at DE and he only way I see us going for a DT this class is for DJ Jones, which could happen if his visit goes well, or if something really strange happened and Huggins or Tuttle decided they wanted to come here.

He sure looks tall in this pic:

And yes he looks a little gumby-like too, lol. Also props to the sweet Gamecock Girl hostesses!

We are in Jaquan Johnson's Top 3 with Miami and Florida. He's a 4* #9 Safety from Killian HS in FL. US Army All American Selection.

He faux committed to SC last summer, but then recanted it. I think one of his buddies got a hold of his phone/twitter account and was messing around.

Here are his highlights from last season.

Tony at 247 said that he is a take for SC.

It's gonna be interesting to see who we hold these last few schollies for - hopefully they'll be special players.

I have a feeling that not all, we currently have committed, will stick.

Joseph Charlton was just listed as the #1 Kicker for the 2015 class by 247.

Albert Huggins officially drops SCAR from his list, will not consider us, makes a big deal out of it.

Saw this coming when I heard our coaches quit calling him or showing him any love whatsoever.

He's off the radar now.

Gotta admit, I'm sort of glad that's done and we can now move on.

From what he has been saying the past couple months, we were still calling him and trying to get him to come visit, but it never happened. I think he would've been a take for us, he's a great player. However, he just made a bad decision. If he goes to clemson, there's not a guarantee that staff will be there next year. If they only win 8 or fewer games, like I think is what they'll do, and they have a 6th straight double digit loss to SC...Danny Ford is going to flip his shite to Radokovich and Dabo is gone. Ford won't let that school lose to SC 7 times in a row. Ford has already been talking trash about Dabo for the past year.

We quit calling him right after the July 4 weekend because of some diss on his part, supposedly something he said or tweeted or something. Might have been the selfies he kept tweeting with him in Clemson and UGA shirts.

He called Everette Sands the other night to tell him he was dropping us after receiving another standard spmailer. Kornblut was told about this so he immediately called Huggy to get the scoop and put it out.

Hell yes we would have taken him, we still would. But it ain't gonna happen and the best thing is to wish him well and move on - we can't get'em all.

He grew-up a taterhead. He's probably going to end up there unless he decides he wants to play in the SEC and get out of the state somewhere, which is what some are betting he is going to try to do either at UGA or Florida.

He's a very headstrong kid. Nothing wrong with him not choosing us. I wish he would have, but there is sure nothing wrong with him wanting to go elsewhere.

Thank gosh so many big time Georgia players wanna come to SCAR.

Is there a kid named DJ Jones or something, that we're back in the hunt for this class?

Also, FWIW:

quote:

Saluda DL Dexter Wideman (6-4 260), a USC 2014 signee who did not qualify for eligibility this season, will enroll at Fork Union Prep, VA this semester with plans to enroll at USC in January his coach said Saturday.

Wideman was a Shrine Bowl performer last season who originally committed to Florida State last summer. But on National Signing Day of this year, Wideman made the switch to the Gamecocks.

The Gamecocks signed Wideman with the knowledge he had academic work to do by August. According to his coach Stewart Young, Wideman did all he could to qualify but fell just short of the requirements.

DJ Jones is the #1 JUCO DT for the 2015 class....he was once a heavy USC lean that 247sports had 100% coming to USC. It was around that time when we were posting all this stuff about getting 5 of the top 10 rated JUCOs for 2015, per 247sports.

It turned out that Jones ultimately chose FSU over us. We still got 247sport's overall #1 JUCO WDE (Sawyer), #1 JUCO SDE (Lewis), overall #1 JUCO ILB (Durant), and overall #1 JUCO OT (Palmer).

During the first fall camp practice, Jones made a surprise appearance at the Proving Grounds, and spent some time talking to Coach Ward. Rumors are out there that we may have made some ground on Jones, and that he still maintains interest in us.

IMO, I've also heard reports that Jones wants to be a "one and done" JUCO player - he wants to get to the NFL as quickly as possible, and structured his recruiting process for programs that gave the best combination of national exposure and maximum playing time.

I always thought he may feel that with the experienced depth USC has at DT (with a possible 6 returning DTs on the depth chart in 2015 with experience if neither Lamin or Stallworth redshirts this season), he may not get the best opportunity to make a big splash his 1st season. FSU have both their starting DTs this season as Jrs/RS-Jrs, and may opt out for the NFL after this season. They brought in 5 DTs in the 2014 class (we brought in 2), although only 2 of them are highly rated 4*s, and are slated to be red-shirted.

Jones probably feels there's a hole at FSU in between the departing Eddie Goldman & Nile Lawrence-Stample, and the upcoming youngsters at DT that as a JUCO, he'd be expected to contribute his experience. But what's going for USC is that Jones is originally from SC, and it gets him closer to family. We'll see.....

That is excellent Conway!

That fits with everything else I've been able to find out about him today. Thanks!

FWIW a couple of our coaches evidently do believe we're back in with him.

Plus he hit it off with some of our players and someone else who caught his eye.

I really had no idea we were signing all these #1 JuCo players. I guess that's the big thing these days.
