Guess I missed that, but that makes it even worse. She has a part time job, gets an extra $2,000 per month, and it's not enough? Give me a break.

You missed a lot. She was getting $1,900 or whatever, but it was cut down to $600. Hence her need for gubment assistants.
Thanks Obama, every skank from Bridgeport to Chula Vista gets a free phone but U.S. National team members with an Olympiad on the near horizon can't afford to eat and train properly.

Her funding was cut from $1900 a month to $600.
Her PT job only brings in $1025 a month at a maximum. So, she ends up having to do with close to half of what she was making.
I don't know anyone who can seriously make it on $1600 a month without any serious help if you're paying rent, car note, utilities etc.

14$ an hour 3 days a week which article states. I assumed 8 hour shift.
Single, no children tax rate is in ball park of 24%. 336-80.64=255.36 255.36*4=1021.44
I rounded up to $1025.
