New: Urban whitewater rafting in Columbus, GA (aka God's country)

Columbus (aka the Crown Jewel of the South) now has an urban white water course (longest in the world in fact
. It's had that feature in some part or another since last year, but they just had a grand opening last month for the full white-water functionality of the river.
Little geography lesson: Columbus sits on the fall-line between the Piedmont and coastal plains, so the Chattahoochee has some good white water there. Columbus is historically a mill/manufacturing city for that reason because they could harness the water for industrial purposes (similar to Augusta and Macon). But since those days are in the past, they've gradually un-dammed the river.
Glad to see Columbus reinventing itself. It's a city with a lot of potential.
Figured I'd share since it is probably pretty centrally located to a lot of fanbases here. This means you don't have to go all the way up to your nearest mountain range.

Working in Columbus right now and the people I know who have gone love it. I was planning on going in the enxt few weekends.

My dad and his whole side of the family for generations back are Columbus people. May have to give this a look next family reunion

The only reason we ever went to Columbus was for tattoos and 40's. it was a shithole back in the mid 90's.

It's gotten slightly better. But it's not God's Country, that's for sure.

The caveat is that the South's crown jewels have been locked away in Grandma's attic since the Confederacy fell; they're a little dusty and dinged up.

I understand the convenience angle, but if you all want a once in a lifetime rafting trip. You need to take one in the Grand Canyon. I suggest at least a 9-12 day trip. You will not be disappointed

Lulz. Everyone in Columbus are expecting their businesses to shoot through the roof because of this, but a lot of major contributors backed out at last minute and they have already had to close the Alabama side down multiple times cause people have kept slamming their heads against big rocks.

Chattooga Section IV with two class 5 rapids is pretty awesome IMO and something everyone that likes any sort of rafting should try.

I'd definitely like to do that sometime.
But I think it adds a whole new draw to Columbus that hasn't been present in the area... ever. Think that's exciting. Not often a natural attraction just "becomes available" like this

Awesome festival. We camp nearby on the river. This year is the first year in the past 7 I haven't gone.
