Expected to play a significant role in Georgia’s defense from the start, Reggie Wilkinson will instead be facing a heavy dose of rehab, apparently.

As relayed by Seth Emerson of the Macon Telegraph, the cornerback suffered what’s reportedly a significant and potentially season-ending knee injury. There was no word on how Wilkinson suffered the injury, although one report states that it occurred during offseason workouts with the team.

While UGA has yet to publicly address the health issue, a tweet from the defensive back seems to indicate that he may have suffered an injury to his ACL.

“Minor setback for a major comeback. #RG3 type-ish,” the tweet read, referring to former Baylor and current Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, who suffered a torn ACL and LCL last December.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck, because it does. But to act like he was going to be some lynchpin in our defense is nonsense.

I agree. Your defense is going to suck with or without him this year.

Do yourself a favor and stop taking anything that man says seriously. He is the radio equivalent to the AJC: either overblowing something positive or negative for UGA.

Reggie WILKERSON would have played, but wouldn;t have started. Sheldon Dawson and Damian Swann are your starting CBs. Wilkerson would have been competing with Josh Harvey-Clemons, Devin Bowman, Shaq Wiggins, Brendan Langely, and Kennar Johnson for the nickelback or backup spots.

It's been known for days that he tore his ACL. Hell he already had one surgery today and will have another tomorrow. He is undoubtedly out for the season.

Kennar Johnson, Shaq Fluker, Devin Bowman, Brendan Langely. Plenty of guys who could play. Wilkerson was just a savvy pick because of the EE. But it's June, he's out for good, so there is plenty of time to gameplan.

Not my top choice either. Ideally Langely or Johnson, Shaq Fluker at SS, Swann and Dawson at CB.

Note that I made no mention of Connor Norman, because any serious discussion of his name elicits waves of panic

It doesn't really matter, they're still going to smash Clemson unfortunately.
