Maybe once you have been in with the big boys for a few years you will understand how SEC rankings work.

LSU was 2nd in the SECW, they won the head to head tie breaker. End of year rank has nothing to do with where you finished in divisional standings(unless there's a 3 way tie)

There is no such thing as a tie breaker for second place in a division. Please show me the SEC bylaws. Tie breakers are for deciding divisional champs, thats it.

I don't understand why LSU fans constantly feel the need to brag about 2nd in the west, who gives a shite? Did you win the west? No. Then STFU.

In the end, people are gonna look back at last season and see that Alabama won the title, A&M finished top 5 with a freshman Heisman winner in their inaugural SEC season, and LSU choked against Clemson in their bowl game.

No one is gonna say, gee, I wonder who finished 2nd and 3rd in the west that year?

People only remember who wins the titles. Do you think anyone will remember Arkansas top 5 season a couple years ago?

20 years from now no one will care that A&M finished 5th in the nation. Who finished 5th in the nation 10 years ago? I sincerely doubt many people can answer that question. But yes, people will remember JF won the Heisman.

As for the the finishing 3rd in the west stat, that's totally true, but in reality who cares? A&M was obviously the de facto number 2 SEC team at the end of the season. We just say the whole 3rd in the west thing because you guys have gotten so damn cocky after just one season of success it's fun to try to bring you down a peg.

You guys had a great season last year and I'm glad most of you enjoyed it. However, if you guys have any delusions of grandeur about all of the sudden usurping Alabama as the best in the SEC, you are in for a rude awakening. See you guys on Sept. 14th!

Texas A&M is a destination job. Located between Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston where 4* recruits are abundant.

Much better stability than any NFL job.

I understand the wishful thinking of other teams fans that he leave.

I said that a few days ago, if these NFL version of the spread coaches get it rolling in the next couple years, Sumlin will be a hot commodity.

I do agree with this, mostly. Nobody except the Aggies will remember a top 5 finish. People will remember Alabama's title and A&M's Heisman.

The theme of this thread is that Sumlin already turned down an NFL team.

He has pipelines of Houston and Dallas 4 stars lined up. He will be at A&M for a long time.

neither jobs are what you'd call 'stable'... Coaches are highly motivated and usually have huge egos... It wouldn't surprise anyone if Sumlin (or any other highly successful college coach) made a go at an NFL HC gig.

Who was the last A&M coach to leave for another HC job, college or pro?

Bear Bryant.

Sumlin might move on to the pros, but the recruiting potential of A&M makes it a more stable job than most in the NFL.

So basically when JFF goes Sumlin is outta there?

At least now there is confirmation Gus wasn't Auburn's first choice. They panicked and made a mistake hiring him.

the dumptruck full of NFL cash will make its way to College Station.

Coach Sumlin's contract was bumped to a 3.1M$ base. This is around the middle to lower end of NFL HC contracts. I'd imiagine with continued success that check will get bigger. I'm not sure money would be that big of a factor. Maybe wanting to take a step up but a lot of CFB coaches don't make that cut. I'm sure he'll think long and hard before making that kind of move.

1. Sumlin turned down the Eagles last year. Fact.

2. LSU and A&M tied in 2nd in the west. There is no actual tiebreaker for 2nd place because it means nothing. A&M however was selected by the better bowl and actual won their bowl game.

I believe it, hell the Raiders called me up a couple weeks back and wanted to know if I was intrested in the head coaching spot. I told them I had a field of watermelons that needed tending to, and they understood.
