I really hope Ro can get his act together. He's so talented but he must have some emotional issues considering the way he was raised. Good luck to him.

"I know a lot of people get disappointed in Rolando McClain and a lot of the things he's struggled with," Saban said, "but he's with us now."

Saban, who spoke before a crowd of more than 1,500 people on a steamy night in East Tennessee, focused on the positives McClain brought to the table during his three years at Alabama.

"That guy was a phenomenal leader," Saban said. "He affected everybody in the organization at a time when we needed leadership because we had a lot of bad things happen when I first got there."

Hope he's able to get his stuff back together. Going back to school and getting around good influences is a start.

He just needs to never, ever, ever, ever step foot in Decatur, Alabama, again. Don't even drive 20 miles close to it.

Thats what I love about Coach Saban. He set his ceiling as high as it will go and won't settle for anything less.

Maybe, but it appears he's got a lot of maturing to do before that happens.

I'm happy that Rolando maybe sees that he needs some structure and guidance.Saban's doing what he should do.McClain went to war for him. It's hard to think that he was the Butkus Award winner in 09.

eta:I can understand these kids wanting to go back home and be the Big Man in town. He's just another Pro Athlete in L.A. In Decatur,AL he's the Pro Athlete in town.Or was.

No he didn't, he played football. Let's not overstate the importance of a kid who obviously has self-control issues. Maybe we should focus on the fact that MILLIONS of dollars could not sway this thug away from his thug lifestyle.

I've been very critical of him in the past, but I think this is a good step in the right direction. If he takes this serious and doesn't get a free ride through, it could be a great step in the right direction.

I used a poor choice of words there and don't mean to compare football with what I said.Obviously one's a game and the other isn't.
I just meant that as far as I know Rolando played hard while he was at Bama.He hasn't done a whole lot positive since he left.Hopefully he can mature a little and get on the right path where ever that may take him

I have been harsh on him also, but respect what seems to be a wise decision. Passing on Baltimore and humbling himself to return to T-Town shows some real character and desire to change.
