“First of all, I think the guys are trying to want to get away from the ‘Gurshall’ label a little bit,” Georgia head coach Mark Richt said Tuesday at the annual Peach State Pigskin Preview at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. “Because they are two individual human beings. So, I’m all for kind of breaking off that saying.”

The first month of the 2012 season wasn’t in the books when the nickname emerged from the Georgia locker room, to fittingly rhyme with the name at the forefront of Bulldogs’ lore, Herschel Walker.

Marshall came to Georgia with a little more hype and had a semester head start, but Gurley stormed into preseason practice and made an immediate impression.

UGA fans are classless and have no respect for their own players, no doubt they'll continue with the abrasive nick-names.

I feel sorry for kids that get tricked into attending that hell hole.

I never use it IRL because it compared them to Herschel but it's a nifty name. Worse things for those 2 than to be compared to Herschel Walker. Also I may just use this more now cause Richt doesn't like it. That'll show 'em.

Actually, Richt just made a comment on it. I doubt Gurley or Marshall really give much of a shite.

Was it widely publicized they hated it before today? I mean it's not nearly as obnoxious as the Honey Badger. He claimed he hated that and still never got rid of it.

ETA: I'm with durden, the worst they probably did was mention it once. Richt then denies the AD an awesome marketing campaign. I mean we could exploit the hell out of that, may as well do it.

Man those UGA fans suck. How could they be so mean and classless and come up with this terrible abrasive nickname?

Your typical buzzkill, preacher father. KIDS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN NICKNAMES, DAD! STOP CONTROLLING THEIR LIVES!

ETA: Oh, and the only way either of them is going to get away from the nickname is one of them gets hurt or just totally drops off. So long as both are tearing shite up, the Gurshall nickname will prevail.

Soon we'll just take the names off the back of their jerseys and replace them with various bible verses
