One thing I noticed, not withstanding the comments made by Ray Tanner about Nick Saban and Alabama in the piece, but one thing I noticed was that these comments by Steve Spurrier appear to be counter to what was claimed earlier by some? Or, is it that Spurrier does not want nine conference games, but he does want to rotate everyone on the schedule somehow?

Almost a year after they planned to set the future football schedule model for the conference, the SEC’s administrators once again will talk scheduling next week as presidents, athletics directors, football coaches and basketball coaches from all 14 schools meet in Destin, Fla.
There are several options, the most contentious of which is adding another conference game, meaning each team would play nine SEC games instead of eight each year. The addition of another conference game would mean another must-see game each year for most fans and eventually put more money in the pockets of the conference and TV executives because it would certainly mean more dollars in media rights deals.

Coaches fought the minimum 7 games back in the day, fought the SEC CG game tooth and nail. They might fight this too but I think it's coming.

Does anyone else feel like Bama will play UK, Mizzou and Tenn is year 1 of the 9 game schedule ?

Since UF and USC both have legitimate in-state rivals, both should always have 5 conference home games.

i want it so we can play other west teams more but overall i am against it because as spurrier put it, we already have a big OOC game each year (kind of) and this really screws with scheduling other OOC teams. so no more games vs Clemson or chic fil a games. i want to say that our game vs FSU in 2016 is contingent on the SEC sticking with 8 games or UGA will decline the offer and that'd blow.

UF and USC are the only ones that can take this stance. Then, if we renew with Miami, we'd be locked in even further.

The Big Ten can claim this is for SOS all they want but in reality they are just using this as a BS way to hide the fact that their conference is significantly weakened due to population shifts.
In a few years they will want to move it to ten conference games and then eleven.
They want their teams playing less OOC to lessen the chance of OOC losses which are far more devastating to a championship run than a conference loss.

There's another option, get rid of divisions. Every team has 2 permanent rivals and rotate 6 games. 2 best records in ATL (with appropriate conference-centered tie-breakers). I think this works out where everyone plays everyone else, at every stadium, in the course of a recruits 4 year tenure. (If he leaves early, that's his choice). Wouldn't this address rivalry issues, schedule fairness, and going to every campus once in 4 years?

Probably. Didn't you hear though? Tenn will be good again, eventually, and that dumpster fire of a game will mean something again. I think Tenn bounces back by 2023 and that game becomes very competative again, at least that what Bama fans tell me.

I know that our AD is against it. About a month or so ago he publicly said that it would not benefit us to play a nine game conference schedule.

Would make it harder to qualify for a bowl game for teams like Vandy, UK and MSU, but it would make the season better all around.

I like the idea of a nine game conference schedule. I would prefer to play another conference game to one of the scrubs we usually play. The idea behind playing Wofford, SC State, Coastal, etc. to give them a higher profile game is nice, but it doesn't make for a very entertaining game, most of the time. Even keeping those games and dropping a UCF or UAB in favor of another conference game could be better. I like the competition. It would be harder, but the challenge would be beneficial.

Kentucky has a "currently" legitimate OOC in-state rival don't they Florida?

I think with a 14 team conference you almost have to go to a 9 game schedule.
At 8 and only 2 opponents from the other division there simply isn't enough cross-pollunation between divisions.
And at the very least it should go to 9 to stop the insufferable bitching about scheduling that some people have grown to love. A 9 game scheudle will redue the possibility of having all easy or all hard opponents from the other division, at 8 it can happen and it makes people freak out.
