He's nowhere near the second coming of Clowney, but I expect him to be a low 5 star.

Agreed. He doesn't have the same explosiveness as Clowney (no one does), but he's still a damn good prospect. Clowney is just on another level from everyone else

The comparison wasn't meant to be taken like that.

USC rarely gets five star talent... maybe once every two or three years. I meant more like he's a 5* DE, our first since Clowney. Having seen Clowney in person several times, I'm the last person who'd try and compare another prospect to him.

Rated a 98 on 247 (should show up later today) which officially makes him a FIVE STAR.

I was just about to post that. Huggins graded out at a 97, SC has two of the best DE's in the country for the '15 class, hopefully Blackshear can convince Huggins to come to USC as well.

I know Huggins likes UGA, but he grew u a clemson fan and the best DE's are coming out of USC right now. He would do well as a DE in a 3-4 or as a 4-3 DE/DT (like we did with Ingram.)

For a second I thought you meant USC Trojans, but either way that's a nice job by the Cocks getting his commit.

He's pretty explosive.

Here are some comments from his coach last night ...

Blackshear's commit caught coach off-guard.

quote:

Blackshear had been favoring the Gamecocks throughout the recruiting process but gave no indication he planned to make such an early decision according to his coach Ken Cribb. "That's kids for you," Cribb said.

"Honestly, I think he's been a Gamecock fan," Cribb said. "He wears Gamecock stuff all the time. He likes all the coaches. Everette Sands been recruiting him hard and he likes coach Sands. Back yard, local, home favorite. He just liked everything about them."

"I'm just going to be honest with you, he can play any position on the field," Cribb said. "He's 6-5, 235. He's been timed as a 4.6 but Friday night (in the spring scrimmage) he ran the ball and I guarantee you he was 4.5 or better. It was incredible. He hit a gear I hadn't screen. And he's incredibly strong, he's agile and explosive. Can run it, catch it, throw it. He has no limitations."

You may be right, it certainly appears that way at the moment, but who knows.

We're going to get a kid out of Hartsville, though, who is just as good as Huggins imho.
